I am an American but unlike most Americans have traveled around the world. There are many countries that have different but just as good of a life and they do not always brag that they are the best indicating by implication that everyone else is second class.

"**** off" . You are a perfect example of American arrogance and you obviously grew up in a doublewide.

Americans believe they are better than everyone else simply because they are constantly told so via the dis-education system and mass media by those with ulterior motives. People with inflated egos who live in fear like Americans are easily controlled and can be made to do the bidding of others will little effort.

I have lived around the world.
I think the current blind patriotism (you may call arrogance) is based on the fact that we are being openly attacked (verbally and otherwise) so repeatedly by other nations.
When something is constantly under attack, it remains defensive.
I have said many times that there are other democracies and such in this world.
I think what makes America the best, besides my being born and raised here, is the opportunity for the best economic mobility and second chances.
Now that this is drying up due to a failing economy and a populace that is increasingly hateful to one another, I worry about the future.
You certainly will have "stirred the pot" with this question.

I have traveled around the world and I don't think I am better, I just think America is basically the place I would rather live. I enjoy other people and other cultures but am more than happy returning home.

Certainly not, stew contains far too many vegetables. Think big macs and coke.
The idea of American 'arrogance' always strikes me as a little odd. I see a lot of Americans who are highly critical of thier own country, even positively disparing. I rarely see much pride, let alone pride so extreme and unjustified as to be classed as arrogance.

No, Americans weren't raised on arrogance stew.
I've traveled as well and wasn't gullible enough to get brainwashed into the anti-American hater crowd.

because we are. we help more people through humanitarian missions, provide more benefits to the world through technology and offer more freedom to grow, prosper and live, than any other country in the world. Americans are not necessarily better people, but the form of government we have and the opportunities we give to those who wish to grow and prosper, are beyond the pale. we are the new greece, the new rome (most of our government is based on these societies and grew from them).

I am 100% with you. There is so much fear of the "other" in America. We seriously need to get people to open their eyes. America is like a teenager! think they're better, stronger and always right. We may be stronger but not if we don't start to look at things with an open mind. A lot Americans don't know or are afraid to look at it, but we're not doing so well. Poor and rich are growing and the middle class we pride so much is shrinking. there are so many things that we need to do. I think it should mandatory that every body is educated in anthropology before they open their months about their country vs. another.

Interesting. I have traveled all over the world myself and find that Americans are much less ethnocentric, racist and arrogant than anybody else.
If you want to see an example of massive arrogance - visit Europe.

We aren't better. We just live better. Although, that is up to debate, even. What, exactly, makes you think Americans are so arrogant?

What makes us arrogant? Generalizations such as yours to begin with. Yes, we are represented by arrogant leaders right now but that does not mean the country as a whole is arrogant. Have you ever been out of the country? Obviously, there are a few people who are ignorant......
