Ok nascar fans, this has been botherin me all day. How come Tony Stewart gets the finishing position of 28th and not 6th or whereever he was. The reason I ask is because this. On the 2nd attempt of green-white-check, if theres a caution the field freezes and the race is over, NOT a the scoring marker but when the yellow was dropped (nascar rules). The yellow on the last lap was cause behind Tony Stewart from the crash in turn 2. Tony was then wrecked by the 26/36 cars AFTER the yellow. If you watch replay you can see the flagman and lights yellow. So Tony did not CAUSE the yellow and if the race is over as soon as the yellow dropped how come he didnt get the top 10?

If it were the checkard flag and he didnt cross the line etc.. but its not, fields FROZEN on the YELLOW, race over, on the yellow tony is in 6th.. whats up with this??

You still have to finish the race - otherwise they would just send everyone into the pits. If he had finished the race he would have been in 6th place but, because he did not finish, all those who did finish were placed ahead of him in the final standings. The drivers who finished ahead of Tony Stewart completed more laps than he did.

Although I see what you are saying, and very well put I might add, the drivers still have to finish the race. The field is frozen, the race is not over. They have to finish every lap of the race whether it is under caution or under green flag. Therefore, that is why Tony was in 28th position because of his wreck, and not 6th.

Like the others said, Tony still needed to finish the race and cross the finish line.

For example, if Jeff Gordon was coasting around under yellow there at the end and ran out of gas and was unable to cross the line, we would have dropped out of first place.

I don't know for sure, but I think it was Mark Martin that many years ago - was under yellow getting ready to finish under yellow, Mark thought it was the last lap and dove down into the pits and lost the race because he just did not keep going around and cross the finish line. It might not have been Martin.

Because he did not cross the start/finish. Think about it, someone could intentionally bring out a caution in that situation (lets say someone just ran out of gas and was about to get passed by several cars. All he would have to do is wreck the car to bring out the caution thus securing his position.) The winner is frozen at the yellow and the field is frozen to their position as long as they cross the start/finish line.

Ok, here goes. In order to finish the race in a certain position, you must cross the finish line. He did not. So, he was given the position where he was wrecked. Got it. YOU MUST CROSS THE FINISH LINE TO SECURE YOUR POSITION EVEN IF THERE IS A CAUTION. Example,,,if Gordons car would have blown up before he crossed the line, he would not have been given the win but rather, 24th or 25th. You must cross the finish line.

The yellow technically didn't fall until Tony's wreck. It was because of the wreck behind them, but it didn't fall until after Tony's was over. I am glad he finished there because he decided to blame Jamie without knowing exactly what happened. Jerk and a half if you ask me!

The rules can be confusing at times, but Tony didn't cross the finish line. Not being able to cross the finish line is why he was so angry.

You must maintain pace car speed and pass the finish line to maintain your position. He couldn't, so he is scored a lap down.

my understandings are that in those kinda cases u have to be able to keep up with the pace car and in tonys case he was unable to do so , but i do think if theycaustion and where ever u are is where u place therfore tony shoulda stayed in the 6th place my opinion
