Please list only freeware that would be useful to professionals in general (i.e., not freeware specific to engineers or managers).

And please DO NOT list shareware, adware, spamware or anything else that is not true freeware.

Thanks!

These programs may not be huge utilities but for day to day running of my internet based businesses and the website I am currently creating, these are invaluable to me -

PDF Writer - download at http://www.pdf995.com/

Font Glancer - http://www.tucows.com/preview/230181

Colorpic (available at http://www.cnet.com)

Zen Cart http://www.zen-cart.com

Microsoft FrontPage Express (This is FREE! It is the first version of FrontPage that does everything the later versions do and is offered as a download. http://download.microsoft.com/download/ie501sp1/install/5.01_sp1/win98/en-us/fpesetup.cab)

I also use Photobucket and Savefile a lot for storing photos and files respectively (http://www.photobucket.com and http://www.savefile.com )

Not an easy question to answer but these have made my work more productive:

FireFox - tabbed browsing (yes, I realize one of the other browsers had it first but compared to Internet Explorer, FF was the first place I saw it), clean interface, reliable
Apache HTTP Server - Anyone could host a website with ease.
Apache ANT - for building software
Eclipse - Much easier for programming
VIM - Missed my vi prompt when I was forced to a Microsoft environment for daily work.
Java - great language to develop in
MediaWiki
GeoServer
OpenLayers

Professionals rarely use free ware, it is stripped versions of the full programs. Professional don't waste time on this. They are professional because they use the best to accomplish the best. Freebies are for trials and lite needs.
All freebies have built in restrictions and may affect your computers performance by spyware and compromised security and confidentiality, So forget free!! Be a professional...

Linux, all my friends got stuck with a really bad trojan that has their machine turned into a bot, denying personal internet service and sending out porn. I didn't get infected. Thank God for Microsoft. Let others spend their whole day wondering WTF. Linux is stable in more ways than one.
