It means the butterfly was looking for a place to rest for a minute and your shoe looked like the best spot.

Did he land on the top of your shoe, or end up on the bottom?
It makes a difference, if it was the top, then you may have some good luck coming your way, if it was on the bottom then the Butterfly had bad luck.

Yeah, like that's some kind of freak occurrence.
Surely you have to realize that, at some point in your life, you will have a butterfly land on you unless you spend your entire life outside their normal area.
It means your foot was a convenient place to stop and take a breather.

it means that it is spring and a very nice day and that you are in a good mood. It also means that the other bugs are out too and I'm watch for misquitos and tick while you are out side. but it is a perfect day so you sould go back out there and enjoy it.

For one thing... it means your shoe wasn't under water... Butterflies can't live under water.
But ...this reminds me of a day I went outside and stepped in a pile of dog do-do... I wasn't inspired and I don't love dog poop at all, but at least I got a chance to experience nature sort of like you did, huh?
