I am tryin' to get a specific tattoo done, but can't find anything that's close to it anywhere. I haven't been able to find anyone able to come up with a decent enough stencil to even try letting a artist work with it for a final drafting. Anything even similar actually pretty much stinks. I don't want a tattoo for the rest of my life that is crap. What do I do?

Talking to the artist is the best way to clear up anything I know, but I have a problem with that. I am getting the tattoo while I'm visiting in another state from where I live. That causes a slight problem on available time to work with the artist from the beginning. I am wanting the basic picture not to tell the artist how to do his job, but to hopefully help make the process a little easier for us both.

I second (or third, or fourth, or...) the idea of going to the artist and let them draw it for you. They're going to be "drawing" it on you anyhow, and there's some twists in tattooing that another type of artist likely won't be familiar with.

I just gave my artist my terrible, awful sketch, some pictures with color schemes & *basic* patterns I liked, and she went from there. I think talking to her about what I wanted was more helpful in creating the piece than anything visual I brought.

There's no real workaround on this one! You have to work with your artist, whether it's long distance or local. If you're having trouble communicating your ideas to the out-of-state artist, e-mail the best designs you can find to him/her and explain how you would modify them to fit your idea. It might take a few tries to get to what you want, but most artists are willing to work with you that way. Good luck!

have you not considered going to the tattoo artist to create the tattoo for you? i NEVER go to my artist with a ready made picture to be tattooed. i always email him a description of what i want and let him draw whatever he wants to. my husband does the same thing and we are both extremely happy with our tattoos. i have NEVER had to make any changes to what he has come up with. you should find a talented custom tattoo artist to work with on your tattoo.

Talk to the artist, they are usually the best people to talk to, especially since he/she will be the one tattooing it onto you. Just be specific, no matter how small the detail. You don't want to have to go back to get it fixed. It's too time-consuming as it is.

Work with the artist you want to do the work. Keep going over it with him/her till its right. After all that is why they are called "Artists".
