Anyone can give you away. I've been to weddings where the bride's mother gives her away (because the father had passed), a brother or a cousin gives the bride away...I even saw one where the bride's DOG gave her away (I couldn't make this up).

Your wedding is YOUR day, and you should do whatever makes you and your fiance' feel comfortable.

Congratulations and good luck!!

I dont know. In a way I agree with what the other people said about you can have anyone give you away.

But in a way--the idea of being given away has its roots in the fact that you and your property are being transferred from one person to the other.

The grooms father really doesn't have any say in the matter. He doesn't have any ownership b/c he isn't related to you at all. And won't be until your fiance says I do so he can't really give you to your fiance as his ownership is dependant on your fiances answer.

If you don't have anyone on your side of the family (a brother, uncle, cousin) that you would like to have give you away, then it seems you would give yourself away.

But of course--thats just due to tradition. If you are having a non-traditional wedding, then it doesn't matter who gives you away. You can do whatever you want to do, and in modern days no one owns you or your property anyway.

If that is truly what you want. I didn't have a dad to give me away, and no other man I wanted to, didn't want to walk alone, so my husband and I walked in together.

That one I personally think is a bit odd, but its YORU wedding. Be given away, or accepted, by whomever you choose.

Anyone you want can "give you away" - or no one at all. It's your decision.
