If there is no God then how do you determine what is right or wrong. YOU SAY that a society can determine with common sence what is right or wrong but what is the logic of letting the defored, crippled or retarded if their drain on society is greater than their contribution. What rights does anyone have in a godless world. I personally am a Catholic and believe when I tell you that if I knew for a fact that there is no God I would commit a whole host of crimes against my fellow man if I was assured that I could get away with it. Wouldn't you. Logically speaking, if your family was starving and your neighbor was rich, and you had the power to take his wealth away from him and protect yourself from retribution, is anyone here going to say that they would not commit that crime if they did not believe a God would reign down his/her/its justice upon them.

I don't need a god or a religion to tell me that killing another living creature is the wrong thing to do. I probably have a higher standard of morals and ethics than most religious folk because I take responsibility for my own actions and don't blame anything on a god. I firmly believe that every living thing on this earth only gets one go around, and that is is absolutely wrong to interfere with their 1 life. My motto is, do whatever it is that makes you happy, so long as it hurts no one else.

Assalamualaykum fairly morality can exist without faith besides the indisputable fact that it really is depending only on custom and custom which does not be per the morality in accordance to Islam faith.Islam faith is given through Allah so the morality is the perfect which will provide safe practices and happiness in this earth and also in afterlife (akheerat) Islamic morality I do believe should be derived from the Islamic training existence would not be so exited if the morality depending custom and custom only were no such element as Islamic faith If the morality is advanced outdoors of religion it will be reconciled and be corrected to make it per the Qur'an and hadith

Even people who have a God they believe in commit crimes. Most people in prison are religious or spiritual. Belief in God does not give you moral values, but it does help outline morality and provides consequences for your actions to keep you in line.
An atheist does not want to be raped or murdered (etc.) and so will support laws that help prevent those things and follow them as well. If you treat others well, they will most likely treat you well too, and atheists have the common sense to realize that fact. We are all human, and love is a human emotion. Whether one believes in a supreme being or not, one will have love and compassion in their heart. You don't need a God to have rational values and respect for the rights of an individual.
If you were an atheist, you would still have no desire to be stuck in jail. So you would follow laws. I doubt you would commit crazy crimes if you suddenly lost your faith, only if you lost your rationality and reasoning.
Hope my opinions helped :)

I would not commit a crime because it is a wrong act and harmful to the person it is acted out against. I don't need a deity keeping watch and keeping me in line when I am perfectly capable of doing so myself.
I'm sorry you feel you need a deity to keep you in line, that the only thing that keeps you on the right side of the law is your fear of retribution from your deity; however, it is not a need of every human individual.

People were moral when they thought the sun was a god. I would act as I do without god looking over my shoulder.

If all you have to be a good, loving person is the fear of retribution, then you are poor, indeed.

hurting others = bad
helping others = good
I don't need any god to tell me that.
Are you not murdering people only because your god forbids it?
