Fate is more likely to be what you are depending on when and where you were born. Since you do not have a choice on who your parents will be and what environment you would like to live on the day you were born, your fate is believable.
Meeting someone in the corner of the street is coincidence that you may either enjoy or dread to happen. The purpose can be later decided as a happy accident if thing will be worked out with a happy ending.
