do you want to lower your gas mileage that much more.

4:10 gearing is typically used for acceleration for quarter mile racing.

If you aren't drag racing don't do it, 4:10's are for quick acceleration and will do that well but drivability comes into factor, you will be shifting ALL the time or taking off in second and shifting to 4th (if you have a stick) I ran 4:43's in a 57 Studebaker truck (with a 440 dodge motor and auto trans) on the street ran 11:80's 118mph at the drags but was not good for daily street driving would have been better with 3:55's but it was built for the track.

I built my son a 84 Mustang with a 351W and 5speed. has 3:00's in the rear and he does mostly town driving and some freeway we figure 3:55's will be best for him with the OD of the 5speed he'll be able to cruse at 70 around 2300 rpm and still perk up the town driving. My 2001 has 3:00's in it and I was thinking of doing the same but I still like cruising at 100mph at 3000rpm......and with gas going to $4 per gallon the stock gears would give you the best MPG I'd think hard about changing.

I have a 94 GT which had 3:08s. I installed the 4:10s and have loved them. On the highway at 120km (75mph) I went from 2000 to 2700 rpm. If you have a 5-speed, you will be shifting quicker. City driving is a blast. I'm glad I made the switch. Hope this helps.

It's not worth it at all. You don't need it, and it will only cost you. You'll be paying a lot more for gas, the engine will wear more, since it is turning more rpm's per mile. If you aren't racing it, then just leave it alone and enjoy it. I had 3:73's on mine and I was wishing I had something lower every time I pulled into the gas station.

I just heard that Shelby will be building a few Shelby Super Snake Mustangs out in Las Vegas. Now if you need a fast Stang then grab one of those. 575 up to 725 HP.

your car would only run 100 mph or so, but it would do it from here to the corner. At the same speed you are running now, the rpms will go up, which means more fuel use and wear and tear. In a nutshell, if you are building a dragster, use the 4:11. If you want a cruiser, go 3:73 or 3:08. Good Luck
