she may feel self conscious! it's my first thought anyways if your a attractive male and she is slightly shy or just intimidated she may feel the need to not show off her chest, butt or anyother part of her body
then again she could have a tattoo

I don't think it has anything to do with you. I do the same thing. Today's "fashion" leaves a lot to be desired. For some unfathomable reason, clothing designers have made the decision that we like our shirts to be shorter and our pants or skirts to be lower. If you have the body type of a 14-year-old model, maybe so. But the average woman is left tugging her clothing to make sure everything falls where it should.
I heard a fashion model say one time that the mark of a good designer is when the wearer puts the clothing on...and never thinks of it again until she takes it off at the end of the day.
I don't know about the rest of your poor schmucks like me out there...but I have yet to come across such a designer.

I know you said women only...but I may be able to help you out with this one. My wife is very self-conscious about her body (especially her butt). We have been married for almost 15 years and she still does the same thing. When she walks across the room (especially in shorts or in her underwear) she pulls down her shirt or even casually puts hers hand behind her. So maybe your coworker has a similar self image problem...but either way as long as you are professional and respectful I don't think you should worry about it.

I don't think it has to do with you. Maybe she get's nervous when a male approaches her. Indeed I've also seen women who wear those teeny weeny blouses and short skirts pulling down their clothes the whole time. I am just wondering: why wear it if it makes you feel uncomfortable?
Not all women are like that. We sometimes also don't understand this kind of behaviour...

Lots of women do this and it does not necessarily have anything to do with you - see if they do this independently of when you approach them.
I used to pull my shirts down as well because my shirts would ride up sometimes. When someone approached me I'd feel self-conscious because I didn't want my backside hanging out.
I no longer do this because I have clothing that fits me better now. :) Got rid of all the shirts I had that had shrunk in the wash, etc.

it is upsetting that many feel that this action refers to their own body image and not to the fact that she may not want to feel inappropriate at work by showing skin. It is probably more of a respect thing than a self image issue. Not all woman find it appropriate to dress scandalously at work.

We just want to make sure that our buttcrack isn't showing, that's all. You are reading into it too much. Is she a little bit heavy or overweight? That could also be why. We tend to have to adjust our clothing a lot.

If she is wearing a high-cut shirt, she is probably feeling self-conscious about exposing her lower back and/or "crack", so she is pulling it down. My suggestion for her would be to wear a longer shirt or one that tucks in.
My suggestion would be, don't stand behind her. It will make her less nervous.

Maybe she has long sexy back like me and she always has to pull her shirt down around everyone at work so they won't think she is a hoochie showing her belly.

It has nothing to do with you. Depending on what I wear sometimes I will do this when someone comes into my office. I sit at my desk and get comfortable and sometimes my shirt will rise so when someone comes in I tend to fix my attire.
