I didn't want to have a HUGE post here - so I'll provide a link to the "Five Fingered Prayer" from another board.

http://churchusatoday.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3978

Will your community be participating?
Who will YOU be praying for on Thursday?
Who do you think we should remember to pray for?

Peace dear ones.

Sorry - gramatical error - "WAS" as in "Was previously scheduled by other persons whom I do not know ...for a date which is swiftly approaching."

Thank you for the History of the date!

--Poor beleaguered Thomas Jefferson. A man who believed in God - but endlessly harangued by powerful ministers of the day who sought to impose their own hypocritically pious will - not God's - upon the Presidency.

I love his quotations as seen at the Jefferson Memorial in Washington D.C.

http://www.monticello.org/reports/quotes/memorial.html

"Almighty God hath created the mind free. All attempts to influence it by temporal punishments or burthens . . . are a departure from the plan of the Holy Author of our religion . . ." etc.

My church does something kind of unique. They host a prayer walk, where members of our congregation - or anyone in the community - starts from one church to another a few blocks down. The purpose is to spend time in quiet prayer, remembering our country, community, family, and other concerns.

But we should also remember to, not only pray, but also praise God, too. I think it's too easy to forget to thank Him for what He's already done!

Cheers!! :)

History of the National Day of Prayer
There have been several national days of prayer in the U.S. before the day was made official in 1952. The Continental Congress issued a day of prayer in 1775 to designate "a time for prayer in forming a new nation". Thomas Jefferson argued however, that although individual religious organizations had the right to designate a day of prayer, the U.S. government should not have that right.

On April 17, 1952, President Truman signed a bill proclaiming the National Day of Prayer into law. It was in 1972 that the National Prayer Committee was formed. It went on to create the National Day of Prayer Task Force, with the intended purpose of coordinating events for the National Day of Prayer. In 1988, President Reagan signed a bill into law decreeing that the National Day of Prayer should be held on the first Thursday of May.

The intention of the National Day of Prayer was always that it would be a day when members of all faiths could pray together in their own way. It would involve Christians, Jews, Muslims, as well as Buddhists, Hindus, Aboriginals, Zoroastrians, and all others, of any faith or of no organized religion, who wished to participate.

I like what Thomas Jefferson had to say about prayer.

Yes, and I even briefly thought there was something to it this Sunday. You see, Kenny Wallace was racing in Talladega with the National Day of Prayer advertised on his car's hood. Now, he *never* does very well, but he qualified sixth! And then he stayed in the top ten for quite a few laps! It really made me wonder if riding with that helped him. But then he got put in the back like usual, and I got over it.

nicely I for one might plenty somewhat waste a reliable day bodily helping people who want help and working to get our troops returned from this conflict of oppression. Iraq had no WMD and that they did no longer have something to do with terrorists and there is not any quantity of wasted breath which you produce which will bodily exchange any of this. Did it happen to you that this usa ought to have prevented terrorist assaults if the terrorists thought that this usa and its tension to Christian theocracy wasn't a risk to different countries and different religions. As a member of an option faith i'm grateful that we ultimately desperate to take a stand and make this usa admit that it has discriminated against different religions by using taking the VA very almost to court docket to approve the Pentacle for the emblem of religion for Pagans and Wiccans. Our warriors going to fought for their usa basically to be denied the emblem of religion that they fought to maintain for all human beings. My prayer is, do something imaginitive inclusive of a while and don't waste your breath maintaining human beings in conflict once you ought to tension an end to it!
