First of all.... Any of these people that say a tattoo doesn't hurt are full of crap. They all hurt to some extent, thus the whole needle in the skin thing... that is unless you are a quadriplegic, in which case, get your self a good artist and have at it. The moron that said to practice with a needle ahead of time, ignore that for the sake of stupidity rubbing off on people!! Please!! Also, anyone on here that can't form a literate sentence or spell four letter words...well, you get the idea. If tattoos were easy and didn't require any sort of price other than a monetary one, almost everyone would have them. The pain is the price you pay for it and believe me, it makes you appreciate it much more. Yes the foot is going to hurt like a son of a *****, and for the reasons everyone mentioned. It is a cool place to get one though, so pick your poison. Also, I have never heard of a tat wearing off from something rubbing on it, as the ink is beneath several layers of skin. Sometimes though, there are areas that do not take the ink as well as others, such as a crease, and may need touched up. Maybe these people were just inked by artists that didn't know what they were doing. The only tat I have that has faded was from such an artist. Good luck and buck up. You'll be glad you did.

I just got a tattoo on the top of my foot on Monday, its been almost a week and i have to say that it was a different pain than what i have experienced with my other tattoo. It wasn't nearly as bad as i expected but here is how I'd explain it...(remember everyone reacts to pain differently too!)
For me the actual work didn't hurt too bad, it was tolerable a few places near the toes and on the actual bone in the center of my foot hurt like h'zell!! After it was over, my artist had to spray bactin (Spell check) because it was stinging pretty bad....Instantly i was limping and that continued for about 3 days......it will swell up too so be prepared for that!
I haven't heard of any fading from shoes, i have only heard that if you wear shoes/socks while its healing it can mess the ink up..........Only time will tell i guess :)
Good luck and it wont be that bad!!

Not ALL tattoos hurt. (I have 15 and some I didn't even feel.) The more meat (flesh) under the area being tattooed the less likely it is to be painful. Bonier areas are a bit more painful. Also, Some people are more able to handle pain than others. Some people have more sensitive nerves... there are many factors to your question But, on average the top of the foot is a spot that can be painful. Most tattoos STING! Watch the person who is going to do the art. See how he/she works with the customer. . Don't just walk in and say "I want it now." research Your artist. You will be wearing it FOREVER.

I have both of my feet covered in a tattoo. Sure it was painful, but not so bad that I wanted to chop my foot off. But like others have said, it depends on your tolerance level.
Also, I have always found that the coloring/shading of the tattoo doesn't seem to be as painful as the outline (but this could be my body getting used to the pain).
Tattoos on your feet DO in fact wear off from shoes faster than a tattoo somewhere else on your body would. I have only had on of my foot tattoos for 2 years and the color has already faded quite a bit. No big deal though, you can go back to your tattoo artist to have him/her touch it up. I hope this helped answer your question :)

yes it hurts. i think the top of my foot and collar bone were the two spots ive gotten tattoos that hurt the most. other tattoos were just like a dull pain, but the foot was sharp pain. i've had a tattoo on my foot for probably over 5 years and it has not faded through all the different types of shoes i wear.

I have a tattoo on the top of my foot...The outlining wasn't bad, it was the color fill-in that hurt the most. I've had it for a year and haven't experienced any "wearing off", and I wear flip-flops and dress shoes all the time... I really love my tattoo. Its cool cause you can look down at your foot and see it!!!!

Because the only thing underneath your foot skin is viens and bones, that means there is not much muscule or fat. Yes to an extent it will be painful. To practice/prepare for getting a tatoo, use a regular neetle, as this is what tatooing is going to compare to (to a light extent); in a rapid motion on the area where you want the tatoo. Also a tatoo is ink being implanted under the skin and is very hard to "fade". The only way a tatoo is going to "not be seen" is if you have it removed, or you are injured and that portion of skin has to be removed :D

Out of all the tattoos I have, the one that hurt the most was on my lower back, across my spine. It took almost 5 hours, and I thought I was going to die!! Everytime the needle dragged across my bones, i could feel my teeth rattle. I had tears streaming down my face. I was bitting my fist, just to keep from screaming out loud. If I can handle that, I can handle anything. I currently have 7 tattoos, but i am planning to get more. So it's all just temp pain anyway.
