Because the think by leaving out the 'o' that it's more respectful. They think spelling out the word god is taking his 'name' in vain.

The Hebrews, who wrote the Old Testament, did not include vowels in their written language. So their name for "God" was spelled without the vowels. Even after vowels were added, they continue to write "the name" and other words for God without the vowels. For them, it is a sign of respect.
Since then it has become a fad and does not always renote respect. It is often done as a form of ridicule by non-believers.

In the ancient manuscripts God's name was never written, there was always a kind of code name for God, because it was considered dangerous, not only disrespectful. God could not allow anyone to look upon Him or to be in His presence because of the sin in the world. God is holy.
In the ancient temple of the Jews, a rope was tied around the priest who went in to offer sacrifices for the people because if the priest did something wrong, he died. They would pull him out by the rope so that no one else had to go into the Holy of Holies to get him.
The good news is that when Jesus died on the cross for us, the veil of the temple was torn in two at that very moment. That signified that because of Jesus, God not only accepts us into His presence, HE LIVES INSIDE US by the Holy Spirit. So, the use of codes for God's name no longer applies.
May your question open the eyes of many to the power of the blood of Jesus.

I guess because they want to show respect. Of course, it is kind of bizarre. I mean, do you think god doesn't know what the middle letter is supposed to be?
Maybe, they should use a cipher. Like HPE, or FNC, that might throw god off the trail a bit better.

I have never spelled God as that. That way of spelling makes me think of a way other people use it, to use the Lord's name in Vain!

Some people say it's disrespectful to say God. They consider it as 'using the Lords name in vain'.
It's usually the Jewish culture.

It is to annoy other people by feigning more respect or something. I can't decide whether I think the _ thing or adding 'pbuh' to everything is more annoying.
