Well, just remember that garlic salt is just a mixture of garlic powder and salt. Very salty. I never use it, I use garlic powder and add salt to taste later. I use minced fresh garlic on my garlic bread but garlic powder works just fine. Just soften butter and mix in the garlic powder.

Yes, they kind of are intetrchangable. Just make sure that you are not adding garlic salt to a recipe that already contains salt.
When making garlic bread, I'd go for the powder. A rule of thumb is whatever you're fixing, ask yourself if you want extra salt in the dish. If the answer is no, use powder. (for example, you wouldn't want salty bread, right?)
My ex bf loved to eat boiled eggs as snacks. He always sprinkled garlic salt on them...the powder was too dry. So also ask yourself if there are other ingredients that will absorb/enhance the flavor or will it be eaten in a "plain" way. That also helps you decide.
Good luck!

I use fresh garlic in almost everything - including my garlic bread. I only use the powder if I am doing some sort of a dry rub on beef or chicken, and even then it is rare. Garlic salt just has too much salt...don't use it. Try switching to fresh - you will reap more health benefits from it, and have a genuine garlic flavor that far surpasses any dry form!

I prefer garlic powder because then I can control the amount of salt and salty flavor in the recipe. If I just want a garlic flavor, I'm good. If I want a garlic flavor along with salty flavor, I just add salt.

I always use garlic powder as compared to garlic salt. And even more, I use the real thing. Garlic bread, if you are using real butter, use garlic powder, as you butter usually has salt in it. If margarine, or maybe olive oil, I would use the garlic salt then. Most things, such as spaghetti sauces already have loads of salt in them, and I would opt for garlic powder or the real thing. With meat, salt has a tendency to dry out the meat, and I again would opt for the powder or the real thing.

Garlic powder does not contain salt. The use of either one depends on whether you are seasoning foods that contain salt already (use garlic powder) or whether you need to add a bit of salt to your food (use garlic salt).

For garlic bread, I use garlic powder, but salted butter and parmesan cheese, so that the bread is salty but not overly so. If you like your bread really salty, then use garlic salt on the bread.

I use garlic powder for all my meats and most of my pasta dishes, especially when I'm too lazy to use real garlic. Use garlice powder for your garlic bread. It's delicious. I do not use garlice salt. It's too salty. I prefer regular salt.
