she runs around the house like a crazy psychotic animal at breakneck speed, breaking things, knocking things off of tables ect. then she lays there panting and all out of breath. once she catches it she is up to no good again. i think she is mentally not all there. my other cat even looks at her like she is crazy. she has always been like this. needless to say my house is now childproof. i feel like i own a greyhound or something.

actually, she probably is a little mental.
there has actually been bacteria found that affects cats behaviour and makes them a little psychotic... that is why a lot of cats act that way and others dont.
theres nothing you can do about it, its quite common and it wont hurt her... she will just act a little weird every now and then. It is not detectable through normal vetinary tests andmost vets do not update their education so most dont know about it.
if it really bothers you, there are medications that can help stress/fear/anxiety issues in cats and dogs - talk to your local vet.
parasites can also make cats behave in a similar way.
here is something else that you might find interesting (this bug is not related to the one i am saying your cat probably has) -

When you say panting, do you literally mean breathing with her mouth open? This is not normal for cats.
While it is normal for young cats to race around the walls and ceiling, they usually know when to stop before they are completely exhausted. Dogs with heart problems still go on trying to run around and end up exhausting themselves, panting and coughing. Because cats are basically more sensible, they will just rest so you rarely see the signs!
I'm not saying anything IS wrong - most likely your cat just has a bit of a screw loose and doesn't know when to stop. However, to be on the safe side, a vet check is worthwhile. Monthly fleaing and worming should be standard, and yearly vaccinations are also a good idea to get kitty a regular health check - talk to the vet about this next time they see her, see if they think there might be something else going on there.

It should help if you had her spayed, you didn't mention if she was or not. I had a kitten like that once, thought he was very entertaining, but my boyfriend did not, since I lived in his house at the time he made me get rid of him. He was a sales Manager and not home much. I always knew when he was coming home cause I picked him up from the Airport so I would take the kitten to my Mom's house. He never knew. My Mom just loved the kitten. Got him neutered and he calmed down. She wouldn't give him back. I was OK with that, but it surprised me, because she was always a dog person.
Get her spayed if she isn't already, other than that I don't know what to tell you except, if she is still a kitten she will grow out of it eventually.

I have a two year old cat who is like this. She runs around like a racehorse and tries to climb things, and gets a crazy look in her eyes. Then she settles down, and is ok. This happens about once a day. We are sure she is ok, she just has lots of energy. We recently got another cat, and now that she can play with him, she hasn't gone bonkers as often. I think some cats are just like this. I don't think she is "not all there", she might actually just be very intelligent and knows how to get into everything.

Probably nothing is wrong with your cat. She's just got the 'willie-woos' (that's what I call it). She has got excess energy to burn and that's how she does it. I have found that acting retarded is perfectly 'normal' for some cats.
I've got one that gets SO wound up that he almost comes out of his fur! And he goes outside too so he's not bored, and he has plenty of toys. He'll run and jump on any unsuspecting (and usually sleeping) catmate, run from one end of the house to the other, run outside then run back inside, lay on the floor with his tail swishing and his head darting back and forth just waiting for SOMETHING to move (anything!), then he's off again. Luckily it doesn't happen ALL the time.

that's pretty normal. i have 3 cats and the oldest one who is around 10 does that and then the youngest who is 2 chases him around and does the same thing. the middle cat who is 5, sits there and stairs at them if and if they run by her, she sticks her paw out to try to distract them. we moved about a year ago to a house that has 3 different sets of steps, where there use to be one set in the old house that they didn't go on at all, but they love the steps. we've learned that with three cats, that nothing valuable is out where they can leap up to it or play with it.

SHe is a cat, they are a little pschycodic! My cat used to do that. It was like she saw things that were not there. She calmed down as she got older, and we go a dog, but she used to wait under furniture and attack me at night! Cats are just crazy like that sometimes. Don't giver her catnip!
