You obviously haven't been in the Army a very long time, if you have to ask that question. First of all, All MOS's are needed in Iraq, so the chance of being sent there is great. Next, considering that there aren't any "front" lines, and even the "green zone" has been bombed recently, there is no "safe" place to be. The other thing that I've known about the Army, is that no matter what your MOS is, you have two jobs. One is whatever your MOS is, and the other is a soldier. So, if they are in need of Soldiers and have enough Admin people, then you will be a soldier.

People who don't know the first thing about the Army should be banned from this board.
Okay, couple of things to consider.
1. You very well may or very well may not be sent to Iraq. The Army works in a force generation cycle where units are put into the deployment pool on a yearly rotation. If you are sent to a unit that recently came back from Iraq, you very well may not be elliglble to go for another couple of years...or, you could be cross-leveled out of that unit and put with a unit that might deploy next month....or you could get sent to a post which is responsible for training Soldiers where you are put into a support role. It really depends.
So, is it possible you'll get sent. Yes. Is it probable...hard to say. Is it definite? Certainly not!!!!!
2. The old saying that "everyone is an infantryman" is kind of dated. Every combat service support unit and every Soldier has a force protection mission that is part of their role in theater, but that does not mean you're going to be running infantry missions.
3. As far as "IEDs being sent to desks" you'll have to move from point A to point B at some point, thus IEDs are a real threat, so pay attention during that time of your pre-MOB training.
4. All MOSs are not needed in Iraq. There are some, such as air defense artillery that have a VERY limited role in Iraq, as the bad guys don't have aircraft or SCUD missiles. In your case, however, your MOS is needed.
I walk around an active duty post every day and see a lot of new (e.g. E-4 and below) and old (E-5 and above) Soldiers walking around without combat patches on...not everyone is going and not everyone will go, but you very well might, so I would recommend preparing yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally.

This very much relies upon on what type of unit you flow to yet probability is you would be at Battalion point or larger and additionally you would be interior the S-a million save (this is the staff save) inspite of unit. you will could desire to tug different duties like shield accountability yet your on an universal basis existence would be spent doing workplace work. some Admin adult men basically like numerous different help pastime can get pulled for a risky task in spite of the shown fact that that's extremely uncommon and frequently any admin guy on a risky challenge is there voluntarily. Our S-a million adult men had a wood construction with electricity and A/C and internet and basically did workplace work and that became into all the before in 2004 a year after the invasion. interior the grand scheme of issues with regard to the worst element you need to do is pull an occasional shield accountability and searching on the place in Iraq you're, which could variety from sheer boredom to sheer terror. All in all, you have the least risky pastime interior the army and additionally you're no longer given the right training to flow on risky missions so if making it out alive is on your time table you're in a good area. in case you want attempt against i could change to a minimum of something else.

I would say that your chances of being sent to Iraq are near 100%. But look at the bright side, there havent been any IEDs set to desks. And another thing, since you are in HQ you will be one of the safest people in Iraq. The only thing that happened at HQ was the mess tent thingy almost a year ago. Keep your head up. You wont be on the front line, and you will be back in one piece, walking, talking trash, and have some ridiculous stories to tell. Good luck soldier. And dont injure yourself stapling papers.

Honestly, anyone and everyone can (and probably will) go to Iraq.
That said, one of the very few people I know who's been in for any amount of time and hasn't yet been deployed is in admin. He was in Korea for a year, then stateside for a while, now he's going to Cuba (he got to choose between Cuba and Iraq). He's been in 4-5 years and no deployment - very rare.
Doesn't mean it will work out that way for you, though. They do need admin people in Iraq, so you could very well go.

Lower than a combat arms mos, but the possibility is still there. The situation is that all units in the military have some kind of an admin position. It will all depend on what kind of unit you get assigned to. If you get assigned to a training unit, like the war college or maybe a fixed hospital like walter reed the chances are almost zero. If you get assigned to a stryker brigade the chances are almost 100%. Thanks for your service.

As my drill told me once upon a time, everyone's FIRST MOS is infantry and then your primary MOS. So no matter what your MOS going in you could and probably will end up in one of the deployments to Afaghastian or Iraq or Korea or etc...

I would depend on what type of unit you were assigned to. Combat units have admin personnel assigned to them. All types of units are being deployed. Most of the same active duty units are rotating through Iraq and they are usually Infantry and Combat Arms units. Not a personnal attack on you but I'm sick of non infantry MOS personnel saying "we are infantry first". No your not, just because they give you a weapon and told you to shoot it doesn't make you infantry. You'll learn what I mean when you meet the infantry.
