And, shouldn't we just make the Bible our Constitution and scrap the Supreme Court in favor of nine clerics to interpret it?

I don't think about their sex life, although one of my gay friends was getting smacked around by his BF and I told him he'd better get out of that relationship and find someone who would treat him right--was that too judgemental of me?

A few reasons, off the top of my head:

1. Because they're obsessed with and cannot see beyond our sex life. More than a few of the leaders of the anti-gay crusade have been revealed to be either closet cases, adulterers, or in destructive relationships themselves.
2. They've been taught, since birth, that anything or anyone that is different is inherently wrong. Remember, they used to believe that lefties were possessed by demons, and would force children to learn to use their right hand.
3. The acknowledgement that we are capable of relationships that are every bit as meaningful and lasting as those of heterosexuals would make it more difficult to stereotype us as selfish hedonists. And, more difficult to argue that society should continue to undermine and punish such relationships and families without admitting that such destructive actions are entirely based on religious opinion- not society's best interests.

I had to answer. arewethere yet, no one shoves anything in anyones faces. Heterosexual people are not out there shoving their PDA in our faces, but they are definitely out there slobbering each other. Whereas it offends you to see two people of the same gender holding hands??

To answer the real question, it seems to me that people still cannot see the shades of gray in life. You are either "Like" someone or you are not. You are not to be defined as an individual, but as a mass grouping of people. For some it makes it easier for their minds to grasp. They choose not to accept those that do not fit into their mass group.

As for adopting the bible, No thank you. I do not condone Genocide, slaughter of innocence, animal and human sacrifice, rape, torture or any of the wonderful things listed in that book. I also choose not to live my life by an archaic text written 2000+ years ago (Older for the old testament). The book was written by men in a time period where the world was not even in black and white, it was all one shade of nondescript color. ANYTHING that did not fit in this mold was condemned as heresy and in most cases punishable by death. The Bible was also handpicked by the leaders of the church. Anything that was written and not approved of, IE: Women in supporting or leading roles in the church, etc, were thrown out. Literally. The church attempted to have many of these books banned. Many are now lost to history but those that remain have a much more accepting view on life. That was not what the church wanted, in a time that they ruled empires and kings and queens were nothing but figureheads. The church did not want to lose it's control. So ultimately, no.

It's because they are prejudiced and want to believe that gays are bad. They get those opinions from listening to ridiculous statements from their leaders, such as Rev. Jerry Falwell:

"[homosexuals are] brute beasts...part of a vile and satanic system [that] will be utterly annihilated, and there will be a celebration in heaven." Jerry Falwell: Quoted in Jim Hill and Rand Cheadle, "The Bible Tells Me So", Anchor Books (1996), Pages 69-70

Or, from listening to Rev. Pat Robertson:

"Many of those people involved with Adolph Hitler were Satanists, many of them were homosexuals--the two things seem to go together."--Pat Robertson, "The 700 Club," 1/21/93

All of that nonsense programs them to be intolerant.

Because they are all obsessed with sex - it's all they ever think about ... but usually gay sex.

Sad, isn't it?

If all the Christians over the last 2,000 years have not been able to work out the Bible, what good are nine clerics?

DANNI: "Why do you overgeneralize and assume without asking first???" - this is usually the question WE are asking Christians.

religious - is different than knowing God, seeking God, following God... 'religious' people were ones that Jesus condemned...
True followers of Jesus do not judge others.
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13:34-35

It's called projection, something very many people do without even realizing it.

even though they say "love the sinner but hate the sin" all they see is "the sin"

GREAT point. But the Christians wouldn't go for that, they like to pick & choose what they think is a sin. If they have to live by the Bible themselves, I don't think they could handle it.

Well when I look at a gay person how am I supposed to tell they are gay? They are just like everyone else. They lie and gossip and do stuff that everyone else does even me. I'm not perfect. As for making the Bible our constitution all we need are two laws. Jesus laid them down.
Matthew 22
37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38This is the first and great commandment.
39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
However we have as much chance of everyone following these laws as finding a person who has never broken even one of the ten commandments. I believe in the separation of church and state in that the state needs to stay out of the church not the church out of the state.
