Prisoners have always got stuff into prisons from year dot. Today it's drugs, mobile phones and sim cards.
Until you censor all mail, stop contact with visitors, make prisoners wear prison issue clothing (Human rights act allows prisoners to wear own clothing), search all staff every time they enter, you will not stop this. Even if you did all this, you could not stop it all.
People throw tennis balls/oranges & all sorts over the walls filled with stuff. The visitors "plug" (stuff the gear into personal orifices) or pass via mouth. Some of the methods for passing would digust you and for retreival, disgust you more!

The biggest commodity in most prisons currently is tobacco. A large majority of contraband is smuggled into the prisons by the employees.
It's not a well know fact, but a large amount of contraband is confiscated from visitors. For some reason, visitors think they can beat the system when so many failed.

Good idea, but this government stop representing our opinions long ago. The human rights act has allowed for a lot of the leniency that has turned our prison system into a joke. Im disgusted at the state of things - the EU seems to tell whatever government we have what to do, and we cant vote in or out the EU government (Smacks of that lot 60 years ago that caused trouble in Europe).
I really dont know what we are supposed to do anymore - democracy - yea whatever!

The majority of drugs get into prison by staff or Correctional Officers.
Inmates have to go through a strip search after visits, the mouths and "other orafices" are checked.
You know going to prison is easier then most people realize, you might find yourself there one day, for something you cannot now comprehend.

I completely agree. I mean homeless people break the law to go to prison. They have TV's, comfy beds, decent meals, snooker tables... we need to stop crime by making the punishments a lot worse, how else will we stop criminals? I think there should be forced labour EVERY day apart from Sunday nd unless there is a genuine reason why this is not possible (illness, age) then if they refuse rations should be halved. XxXxX

The Human Rights Act 1998 is not the cause of these problems - peple should read up on this Act and not believe the tabloids.
Items such as drugs and tobacco and suchlike are probably brought in by employees who make a profit from them. The police are corrupt, where there is power there is corruption.

In Spain the prisons have glass cabines for weekly visits, but as the law permits Vis a Vis, personal visits, they get in that way, and by the way of bent screws as well, a little bit of somthing makes life easier for a screw as the inmates are quieter.....if you're caught trying to take in something prohibited, be it drugs or a sim card, there's one hell of a lot of trouble to all concerned......but it happens constantly

many prisons have the drugs thrown over the wall in tennis balls, or soaked in a solution into clothing etc
or dripped into the end of a cigarette. it's too easy, and the prison staff are too busy and dont have the time to keep ahead of the crims
this country is too soft!
