I have mild asthma that is controlled with pills, and occasionally an inhaler. Can anyone tell me a success story about getting through basic training with asthma, or any tips to sneak my pills and inhaler in? I know all the reasons not to, but I'm doing it anyway. Just need to know how.

Don't even try.

Lying you your enlistment papers will get you thrown out with a 'bad' discharge.

Your mild asthma is a disqualifying ailment, and rightfully so. While I applaude your desire to serve your country, it is of benifit to no one to have you go down with an astma attack in a combat zone. Your medical condition could get you or someone else killed. Further, the medical exams you are given will generally catch such medical problems. Should that somehow fail, during the background investigation it is almost certain to come out that you have asthma. Lastly if by some miracle you make it to basic without being found out, you will be searched, and your personal effects locked up until the end of basic, so hiding your inhaler will not work. But assume another miracle and it is not found. The first time you use it in the presence of any military personnel it will be reported and you will recieve a discharge due to unsuitability for military service. Then if someone gets a burr under their saddle that you made it that far without getting caught they can criminally charge you with fraudulent enlistment which can result in fines and jail time. So be smart and be honest and forget the military. If you really want to serve your country consider the peace corps or some other mode of service which will not create an undue risk to yourself or others.

I went to Basic Training with asthma. ARMY not AF.. I know for a fact your bags get inspected as soon as you get to reception. Have your mom mail your stuff.. while exercising keep it inside your pants or in your socks. That is how I did it.. Take your medicines till the last day before getting ship.. this will give you at least a week with them in your system and the mail to get there.. If your Asthma is that bad.. is not worth the $1000 a month to risk your life.. If you get caught well they will kick you out.. at least you tried.. While I was in Basic I had very few episodes and was not in pills at the moment only used the rescue medicine.. the constant exercise helped my lungs.. We are not the same.. You know your body and know when and Attack is comming seek help..Put yourself first..

asthma after age 12 is a perment DQ with zero chance of a waiver. If you are on meds, you won't even pass the Docs at MEPS, let alone get to Basic.

and don;t even THINK about sneaking it in.. first, you won;lt be able to, and secondly, you WILL get caught and that earns you a Fraudulent Enlistment diuscharge, meaning ZERO bennies from the military.

shame on you for putting your fellow recruits lives in danger with your selfishness.

Lots of water, and get a lot of cardio vascular excercise prior to getting to camp. You need to limit your use of the inhaler now, not later.

The military will take you with athsma. I had two squad members with athsma go through basic with me. The drill sgts let them skip the gas chamber. They had no problems that I ever saw.
