I like it, not much of a "dance" number like many of his others, but still nice.

I like the tune, it's very calming and sort of peaceful, and John had a great voice. But the lyrics are another thing. They are clearly an atheist's pov. I very much dislike the lyrics. Too bad.
Prior to reading the lyrics I sort of liked it, but then afterwards, I don't know, I guess I could see the pov of parents in the 50's who said that rock n roll music was the devils music. The devil can be very subtle and lull a person into ways that they wouldn't think they would ever go down. I think that can easily be seen in the Imagine song.
(Yes, yes, I know, now you all think I'm a fundie - or more of a fundie than you thought I was before. I would have never thought it before, but maybe I am to a certain extent.)

My dad is a Christian and it's one of his favorite songs. I'm not, but I also think it is a very beautiful song. May John Lennon rest in peace.

Its a great song with a great meaning. It was not part of the hippy movement of the 60's, though Lennon did promote peace and whatnot. if anyone listening to the words of the song can't grasp the meaning, maybe they should relisten or retrain their ears. all he is saying is imagine a world without all the hype and hypocrasy man has made it into. even God. materialism, everything. just to "imagine" a place where none of that exists. somekind of 'imaginery uptopia'.

I even have continually enjoyed Lennon's good judgment. the sorrowful difficulty is that this is organic that some human beings contained in the human inhabitants are ignorant and packed with hate. this is much greater unhappy that people who're ignorant and packed with hate are oftentimes people who's message gets unfold and who commence wars that the peace supporters finally end up battling.

I think it's a pretty song and I always sing along when I hear it...but it's totally useless in it's meaning.
John had a very "hippie" mentality. Back in the 60's people tried to whole commune thing. Everyone live together peacefully, sharing food and chores, sleep with whoever you feel like, no God, no religion, no hate or jealousy...and you know what? It doesn't work!!
The bottom line is we are born selfish sinners in need of a Savior...which is Jesus Christ.

I am a Christian and I have always, always loved that song. God is of unity and not religion. Of love and inclusion and not division and misunderstanding. When I imagine no heaven and no hell, and the possibility of "this" being as good as it gets but also as bad as it gets, I say "HEY!" isn't that really all we've REALLY, TANGIBLY got anyhow. But there is HOPE. And faith. Then you start thinking and getting differences of opinion. I love that song. I love John Lennon. I love Christ, too and I love this question. Peaceman.

I like it very much. I view it as more symbolic. We have turened religion and the idea of God and Jesus into a tool for hate. I believe Lennon was saying that we as humans would be better off without these flawed ideas.
What God and Jesus actually stand for is not what they have been turned into by the public. They have been used as propoganda and a reason to kill black people, and trigger wars.
Real God and Jesus=good
Idea and perception of God and Jesus created by man=bad

It's a beautiful song written by a musical legend who died before his time :0(
No intense significance here- we like music too, ya know! :0)
EDIT: So just because Lennon had some anti establishment ideals I can't like the song? No one who is religious can like the song?
Ok Atheists- that's like saying you can't like the Da Vinci Code because it discusses religion and God and Christ.
Come on people!!!
Good music is universal!

I used to think it was a good song about peace.
When I got saved and really listened to the words I noticed it was about the one world order, which the antichrist will bring.

It's the anthem of the world.
I am not of the world. My citizenship is in heaven.
John 17:16
Jesus prayed, "They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world."
