I am a very devout Christian, but as I have been looking through all these questions I have been disappointed in my faith. We are to live as an example, and that’s not going on here. Now if I see something that I have a differing opinion about I am going to post it, but I'm not going to tear down another’s beliefs. To all the Christians out there, when you see a question that you disagree with why don’t you try to give valid arguments instead of lashing out? And to all those who don’t believe in God why are you asking questions that you know will start fights? If you have a true question then ask it without demeaning us and acting like we are idiots for believing in God. Both sides of this are acting like animals. Now that’s a way to bring someone to Christ. Let’s cut them down. And to those unbelievers, if you want to see out perspective, then don’t act like we are cavemen for giving our opinions!

Now chill out on me! I wasn’t being hatful! But I grew up in a house that I was taught that everyone that believed different from me would go to hell. Its wrong! How can we expand our minds and our intelligence if we are constantly condemning everyone to hell? Or for being idiots? It takes difference to make the world work!

This is my take on this. I am a Christian; I believe what I believe because of the things that I have had happen to me in my life. For every belief I have, I can back it up with proof. But if we as Christians want to ever bring someone to Christ, then when we are asked for proof then we should either have it, or reevaluate our faith. For atheists, if you have a question, ask it without being hateful and you just might get an answer. This has nothing to do with religion and all about how we treat fellow human beings!

Great post! It reminds me of an excellent book you would like, "When Bad Christians Happen to Good People" by Dave Burchett.

I remember seeing C.W. Perry years ago give a sermon that didn't go over well. He cited that book, and wrapped people on the knuckles for praying loudly when out to eat, putting a fish sticker on their car then speed/cut people off, and people that make a spectacle out of themselves in the name of Jayyyyeeeeessssuussss.

Those reasons among others, is why I turned my back on God and church for many, many years.

We are commanded to be as Salt and Light. Remember: too much salt and things taste terrible. Too much light and people are blinded.

Thats a very good question and one I asked myself when I joined the answers. Christians do tend to get very defensive about their faith. Not everyone has matured in Chirst yet so try not to judge them. They will learn how to be an effective christian, it just takes time.
Others, just like to argue for the sake of it.
Remember though, Jesus said we would be perscuted for our faith. It is happing everywhere these days.
So don't be discouraged. Use this site to help those who want the truth and ignore the fools.
Proverbs 16:23 says " A wise mans heart guides his mouth and his lips promote instruction.
Proberbs 17:28 says "even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue.

God is full of love for all His people. There are some that has not come to know Him yet. Therefore, we should live as a witness to others but stand firm on our beliefs.

My advice for you is to choose the questions you answer wisely and if some reject your answers, shake the dust off your feet and move on. We are just planting a seed, not trying to save others.

God Bless

I try to give good, well thought-out answers to question here and respect others without watering down Biblical truths. That's a tough balancing act at times, and I admit that I have both a temper and a sarcastic streak.

The Lord is still working on both of those things, and I realize that I have a long way to go. I agree with you that lashing out at non-believers and ridiculing them isn't what God wants or expects out of us.

I'm not responsible for the words or actions of non-believers. The only person I'm accountable for is myself.

The internet reduces most people to acting like 6 year olds. Remember how you felt about anyone who was different when you were 6? Now, what if you were 6 and they were questioning one of the fundamental foundations of your life.

That is the reaction you are proposing people fight ... I wish you the best of luck. I have simply stopped answering questions about religion as a general rule. I am neither a Christian or an Atheist (and alas ... my people don't act any better in these forums).

Blessed be

"Starting a fight" is a very effective way to demonstrate the hypocrisy and flawed beliefs of those that lash out in what would seem to be a non-loving response a simple question.

I am especialy intrigued by the way a simple statement of belief, such as "there is no God, God does not exist" is received as an animalistic attack.

I also enjoy tha barely-veiled glee attached to assertions that non-Christians are going to Hell.

Good debate harms no one (literally)
Sometimes it does get a bit overheated, but any actual QUESTIONS about faith angers Christians. Christians don't want to question anything; they are happy to accept everything as it is without question; they call it faith. As an atheist, I find this concept a bit silly; ridiculous, even.
Most atheists are not really out for blood, they just want you to be able to provide a strong argument for WHY you believe whatever you believe.

Yes, I see what you mean. I try not to argue. I hope I spelled that right. I know that, in all facts, that begin a Christian isn't about religion, it's about a relationship with God through Jesus Christ our Lord. It's ok to ask questions.

I agree with you, to a degree.

However, let's face it - no matter what question a non-Christian asks, it tends to start fights with many Christians.

Point in case - somebody was asking what a good Wiccan website is, and sure enough - some Christian wandered in, looking to pick a fight.

Between the Spanish Inquisition, the Crusades and the Salem Witch Trials, the christians have a big head start in torture and tormenting. Atheists are still trying to even the playing field.

i agree. when other Christians bash and torment not only atheist but people of other religions and beliefs we are not carrying out what God wants us to do. all we simply must do is explain out beliefs; not bash and torment others.

i don't know if you have ever noticed but when a non-christian person asks or answers questions they get references from the bible. i think that is hypocritical.
