Everyone so far is correct with their answers, but maybe you should take more time and consider if moving 2000+ miles is the best decision for you and your future. Do you have a scholarship at that PA school? If not, then why go? Oregon has some good colleges too (although USC would be your best bet! ;-) Your mom is not right, but I have a feeling she's worried about you wanting to move across the country just to be with your boyfriend. When you have a teenage daughter, you will understand!

The "Age of Majority" in Oregon is 18! This is the term for which a minor becomes an adult and is no longer held legally to parental control.
Your parent is merely attempting to sway you from making a bad decision that could bring problems down the road. Is she right or wrong....it depends upon how well you learned when growing up!
Best wishes.

You are correct. 18 is the law in the US. You have the right to vote, enter into a legal contract, get married, join the military, or whatever else you want to do. Tell your mother to search the web first. Which college in PA?

Here in the UK it is 18 and judging by the earlier answers it is 18 in Oregon to. Just a thought though...if you move in with your boyfriend's parents and both you and your boyfriend are going to go to college, how are you going to pay your way, because once you move out your parents will no longer be fiscally responsible for you...are you going to expect your boyfriend's parents to provide your food and clothing?

You are correct. An 18 year old is an adult with an almost full set of rights and responsibilities. (Missing is the right to drink.)

Sounds like mom will have "empty nest syndrome". She's wrong. You may leave at 18. You could have even emancipated yourself at a younger age.

You can ALWAYS move out (run away) but you might want to get your parents blessings as running out (legally or not) will cause all kinds of hard feelings that will haunt you for your whole life.
