This is fun because she gets to meet girls her age, sing dance dress up all the things little girls love to do! feel special i do not care if she wins or looses it is fun for her i never had hte chance! children are not allowed to wear makeup in most pageants so I think it is great chance to learn poise and talents!

If you want her to have a fun childhood, do NOT treat her like a trophy to show off! Please don't take that the wrong way. I allowed each of my daughters to participate in a state pageant when they were about 6, just so they could see what it was like. They NEVER wanted to do it again. It was anything BUT fun - which is exactly the point I wanted to make to them. (If you want your child to learn something, sometimes the best teacher is experience!) There was a LOT of stress / high pressure involved, hectic schedules, rude stage moms pushing their crying children to do things they didn't really want to do, spoiled rude brats who had been in so many pageants that they didn't know HOW to be a normal playful child, etc) My oldest daughter did model during junior high / first year of high school - but it was HER choice and mostly local stuff. I also recently entered my 2 year old grandbaby in a local pageant and she won every category (most photogenic, best hair, best personality, best dress - which was a dress we bought on sale for $14 from PENNEYS, btw) AND the pageant title for her age group. Of course, that meant she also won her fees paid to the state pageant, but we are NOT taking her. The local pageant was just for kicks....we do not want to teach her to value who she is based on her appearance. Every parent wants to show their child off - it's only natural. So enter her photo in a baby pageant at your local fair or whatever - but it is NOT fun for most children to do pageants, especially as they get older. (Look at Miss B's comment about the girl who beat her out of the title, if you want proof of the kind of attitudes these things cause children to develop!) Most children aren't there because THEY want to be; they are there because their egotistical self-centered PARENTS are pushing them. If you really want your daughter to have a fun childhood, give her lots of QUALITY TIME and love. It's better to let her play "dress up" at home, when SHE chooses to, so that it really IS fun for her. YOU make her feel special...not some fake materialistic display.

here is a lame sarcastic remark without saying it. Fun isnt work, wearing pounds of makeup and being shuffled all over from stage to stage like a rag doll.

Hmmm...I imagine you can start dressing her and making her an object of ridicule at any age. You can even enter her in a pagent and make her know that looks are the most important thing and that you value how she appears to other people.

No lame remarks from me!

I was entered into pagents at 2.5 years old.
I could talk pretty well by then and I could understand what I was doing.

I loved it!!!

I got second place...The girl who got first didn't deserve it. Her dress was a cheap wal mart flower sundress...mine was very pretty and made special for me! and my hair was very cute...I think she was in with the judges or something.

ANYWAY!!
I think pagents are fun as long as the child gets to quit when they want to.

Just a note: as a kid i was happy just to get a trophy I didn't care what place I got. It bugged me once I got older and saw the girl who won....oh well....

if you want her to have a fun childhood, let her be a little kid and just have fun, instead of turning her into an arrogant little brat with a stage mom. shes a freaking BABY...if you want her to have fun, then wait till she gets older and see whats shes interested in. your just trying to be controlling and force her into things at way to young of an age.
