I went fishing this weekend and took a nap in the jeep, and when I woke up I could't move my entire leg! I mean, I tried to move that sucker and had to literally move it with my hands and had to punch it to get it to move. Then that awful Tingly feeling set in. WTF? I understand that when the blood gets cut off your limbs fall asleep but paralyse??? This happened to my hand before too!

I am starring this question because I have the same problem. I was always told that poor circulation runs in my family. But I think it has to do with poor blood pressure in the extremities. As long as you are moving periodically, your blood keeps moving, but when you sit too long or sleep heavily it builds up in your hands and legs and your tissues don't get as much oxygen, hence the numbness.

It only happens to me every once and a while so I never really worried. But if it happens to you a lot you should talk to a doctor, as this could be a sign of a more serious prob.

I woke up one morning without my right leg? The only reason I know because my bed Partner is a 31 kilo Labrador, who always lays alongside me and of course when I wake up know I have a bed partner. Well until this morning and my first reaction 'Dog is not in bed, perhaps she wanted a call of nature and I slept through the barks, howls!' Panic. I jumped, unfortunately Dog was alongside, so Dog jumped and bolted! In fact Dog nearly had a heart attack. It was only then that I realized something was seriously wrong and I could only feel my leg by touching it with my hand, but could not feel the hand touching the leg? I have Disc problems and it seem now have nerve damage to the leg, so dead leg? However I had another excruciating bout of pain five weeks ago, left me in a wheelchair. I am now getting 'some' feeling back, in so far as I suddenly found both my knees, they are really sore, never experienced this before. My right foot is still numb, interesting when driving my car but at night when I go to bed 'pins and needles' every night, never had that before.
I am not convinced the blood circulation alone causes this, but reckon the nerves do play a part, perhaps if the blood is not circulating, messages from the nerves do not function either?

A couple of years ago (OK, more than a couple), I used to work at a saw mill pulling green lumber on the long side... very very physical job. Experienced much muscular growth as a result. And because my arms grew so much, I had a problem with circulation in my elbows. If I didn't sleep with my hands over my head at night, they would fall asleep and flat out wouldn't move inthe morning... VERY PAINFUL!! Even to this day I have the same problem, except my arms arenot nearly as large as they used to be.
