I didn't even know people from other countries were on this site. I thought each country had their own version of the site. Sorry!

It's not always clear where the asker is from, most of us on here try to be helpful in our answers. If it's not clear where the asker is from, I usually say "if you are in the UK" but most of the time I can tell by the language used if the asker is from UK or US. I'm sure incorrect advice isn't given intentionally, it cuts both ways!! I've had some really useful answers from our US friends.
As far as us Brits are concerned, we are on a UK and Ireland site, so we are not intentionally asking people from US fore advice, the questions are not filtered by Yahoo. We share this site with many countries so let's make the best of it!!!

Great question but the same applies the other way round .The problem is you don't know the country of origin for the question so you you may well be giving quite innocently an incorrect answer. The only way to stop this would be for Yahoo to give us some idea of the source of the questioner .

A lot of the time it isnt arrogance as the question doesnt state what country the questioner is from. This is because you get the same questions for the Uk and USA.

Because people in the UK frequently don't add in their post that they're in the UK, and people answering from the US don't realize that the person asking isn't in the US. Everyone's arrogant, assuming that everyone on Yahoo is in the same country. If someone tells me that they're in the UK on a question I'm answering, I'll tell them what the law is in the US, and then advise them to check with a solicitor there for the applicable laws in their location.
Even in the US, laws can vary from state to state, so what applies in one state may be well be completely different in another state.

I'm pretty sure that most people don't realize that there are people from the UK on Answers. People aren't going to go to the trouble of checking where someone is from before they answer a question. That is why most people put which state they are from in the US. Laws and such are different here too. It wouldn't take but a second to put where they are from and it would save them from having to read through a bunch of unhelpful answers.

Sometimes people don't specify where they are. So I give answers that pertain to the country I am in. I'm in the USA. If applicable, when I answer questions, I also site were I got my answer with a link.

Probably works both ways, I'm sure some people in the UK are doing the same to US residents! Unless you specify you are in UK you cant always tell where someone is from!

To them it is not incorrect, they are telling you what is right in their state. I'd like to think that if you mention where you're from then apart from the usual jokers you'll get good advice from people in your vicinity. A bit of friendly advice though, if it's a legal matter seek the advice of a solicitor.
