Hi Karley, All of the things you are experiencing are normal. Getting dentures is a very traumatic thing both physically and emotionally. The way your mouth feels now is a combination of the discomfort from the extractions and the feel of the new foreign object in there. As you heal the denture will get loose and you should plan on seeing the dentist often so they can be adjusted or having temporary soft liners put in. Six months is just a guideline for replacement of that denture, don't rush into it unless you just can't stand what you have now. Your mouth will be doing a lot of changing over the next year and you will need to keep adapting the denture to those changes. I think the taste thing is more related to the trauma in your mouth and the condition it was in prior to having your teeth pulled. If you had decayed teeth or gum problems then food tasted different already but you adapted to that over time. Right now there is dead tissue coming off your gums which can alter the taste of food, you have this big bulky device in there which is upsetting everything and there has been physical damage done to the taste buds, you are very new to all of this and as things settle out, the taste of foods will return. Your permanent denture will be made to fit your healed gums which is a big plus, it will fit snuggly and be made of thinner material so it will not take up as much room, you will have input on the selection, color and placement of the teeth also. A lot of detail can go into this denture to make it more life like. Any support issues about your cheeks and lips can be addressed then too. feel free to contact me if you wish Sandy
