Forgiveness has two purposes.
Firstly it recognises the humanity in the offender and says 'OK, you messed up but I can believe that you are more than just that one mistake.'
And secondly it allows us to let go of the hurt caused when someone offends us. And for me is is by far the most important. For who suffers most when we do not forgive? I believe it is us. So yes, we both can and should forgive. Whether forgiveness is asked for or not. For our own sakes.
Peace.

I don't about your god, but I forgive people when they haven't asked for it or even apoligized. It is a healthier mental state for me and a better role model for my boys. My faith and trust in the offender cannot be restored without the offender trying but I forgive whether or not they ask.

You can forgive without the offender asking for forgiveness.
As for God...why do we need to know? That is God's business.

Do you mean forgiven by the person to offense was committed against? I'm just trying to get some clarification on your question.

Sure, God is not limited by your puny brain and wimpy rules. God may not even consider your offensiveness an offense. But, then again, he might. How surprised many of us will be when we arrive at the last day.
Ask yourself did I live today courageously? Did I live today the way Jesus would want? Or are you congratulating yourself for bringing judgment to those God would not consider worthy?

I depend on what you did and who you seek forgiveness from. I forgive my Exgirlfrind for cheating on me even though she never asked for it. but the LORD wants you to confess to him. He know what you did.... but he want you to tell him. I believe there is one unforgivable sin... that is to deny God after You see him.

absolutely!
forgiving others, even when they don't ask for it, frees us from the anger we hold towards others.
