Touch the bulb after it has been turned on for a while. Then you could perhaps hazard a guess as to where the energy went.

A lot of energy is needed to overcome the resistance of the the wire. So overcoming it the energy transforms into heat.

As in any physical reaction, there is a quite a bit of atrophy. Atrophy = heat.
