Hello,

I'm moving out with my girlfriend in aabout 5 months, and had a few questions. I am 20 years old, and she is 18. Since she is still in High School, how would we go about transferring her to another high school in the area that we will be living in? What would be required to do that. I have about $30,000 saved for us to fall back on in case anything unforseen happens, and currently have a well paying steady job. She works part time, and will switch to full time once she has graduated. I will be paying for rent and necessities from my paychecks, and saving whatever is left over. Does it seem that it is a good idea to move out with that amount of money saved?

Thank you

Get married if you're going to play house. If you're not ready to get married, don't shack up.

While it looks like you guys have worked out some sort of plan, you really should look at the big picture. You should not move in together if you are not married. Transfering high schools is hard on a person especially during their senior year. If there is not a serious reason on why she needs to get out of her house then don't, but why do you have to more somewhere to make her move school districts? Honestly, you should let her finish high school and save up some more money and get married before you move in together.

She would have to call around to schools in the area to see what they require. It depends. And savings like that is good. Just don't go wild spending money for things around the house just yet, since she is only working part time. I think the two of you are pretty young for all of that, but good luck.

If she's 18 and in high school, she's probably a senior. I'd wait until she graduated. If she's not a senior, wait until the end of the school year. Changing schools this late would be really tough, if her new school is close to final exams.

What will you do after she graduates? Are you paying for her college education? What about yours? If you're not planning for that, I think your plan seems shortsighted.

she should go to her present high school and notify them she's going to leave the area. then she needs to go to the new high school when you're moved and tell them she's a new student. since she's 18, there should be no problem. it will take a while for her records to reach the new school, but she can start classes right away. sounds like you have a good plan and have taken care of future problems. good luck to you. it's not many people your age (or older) that have that foresight.
