I am getting ready to graduate, and people keep asking me what I want. I really only want money, yet it is sortof rude to tell them that. Any tips on how to hint very nicely?

If people ask and you reply honestly, you are not being rude. If you just blurt it out , then you are rude.

Just tell them, "Actually, I would prefer cash or gift cards. I am trying to save for__________(you fill in the blank)." That is a nice way of putting it, and as a mom, I think it is a great idea to ask for cash. You can also tell them the money will go toward college expenses if you are going to attend. Congrats on your graduation!

It all depends on how you tell them. This is a new life you're starting and it is reasonable to say that at this point in your life what would help you most to get started is cash to help take the pressure off of this new beginning.

That is why my aunts, uncles, ... give out money instead of gifts. So the person could buy whatever they want. Oh and in our culture it is rude for us to take back the gifts we've gotten to the store and exchange them :D

Tell them all you're focusing on is saving up right now to move out, buy a car, go to college, etc. If you're saving it for something responsible, they should get the hint.

Tell them you are saving up for a car or to have money to rent a place off campus. They should get the hint.

In my experience though, most people will just get you money.

i disagree with some of the people on here...i dont think that it is tacky to ask for money...if they ASK you what you want - they obviously want to know :) if they dont ask...then let them get you what they want....if they get you something that you neither want, nor need, and you dont think they would be offended, just take it back and get the money in exchange :) or you can *regift* their gifts....take heart, most people give money and gift cards anyway :)

Savings Bonds! Tell them you want savings bonds. That way, they feel they are helping you save and within a year, if you want, you can cash them all in and buy something you want. I'm a young guy by the way.
