Read-only means that the author of the document wanted you to be able to read it only, not edit, copy, or otherwise modify it.
As a result, you'll need to password to access the document.

If you are using windows... find the file in windows explorer... right-click on the filename and choose properties. At the bottom of the properties popup you will see a checkbox "Read-Only". Uncheck this box.

It somewhat shouldn't do - i could open the unique, then do 'save as' and supply it a sparkling call, this could effectively create a replica and any changes you're making to the replica can not have any effect to the unique.

You'll want to open it, and then do a File/Save As and save it somewhere you'll remember. Then, you should be able to edit it.
