Neighbor claims a reflection from my second story window is melting his siding. Is it possible and who is responsible?

I agree with Edward. I don't believe it has anything to do with your window though. The nails installed on the siding were probably knocked all the way in and are "pinning" the siding to the house. Vinyl and aluminum siding expand and contract and that is why they have slotted holes for fastening.

No you are not responsible, it's called an act of GOD and if what he says is happening I suggest that he needs to do something about it like put some sort of cover over it to deflect the sun's rays. As you obviously cannot move your window he has no chose but to cover the vinyl up with a non reflective material.

If vinyl siding is not installed correctly (with some room to expand & contract) then you get wrinkled or ugly siding. I would say if your window is reflecting enough heat to melt siding you wouldn't be able to stand in front of it! Sorry about your crazy neighbor!

i know a window maker and he laughed and said no way. First the glass would break at that heat, second it would need a stronger heat source like a laser. hes been in the biz for a looong time so i would believe him. tell your neighbor to move the grill a little farther from his house, that might stop the melting lol
