Most moderators get paid; only not a salary like you think. Some get a little gift as their payment. For other companies you may get $10/month.
Not a useless job at all IF they're doing their job.

I don't know what you do or where you spend your time at but do you expect to get paid for doing whatever you do? That is the same reason that people at Yahoo get paid.
