It's normal. Buying a car is a big step in life and I'm proud you're taking the steps to do so. However, while most young people have family members giving them cars or buying them, you're doing so on your own. So naturally it's going to be more difficult.

Just remember that even if your friends or people around you have these nice cars, chances are they are having to pay out their *** for the monthly payment and insurance for having a nice car at their age.

Take it slowly. Shop around used car lots. See what most dealers want as a down payment. Allot of used car dealers start off with down payments around $1000 and up. While that sounds like allot now, in the gist of things; it's not really that much when getting a car.

Sure. Most people have had the experience in some way. Not being able to afford any car, or just not being able to afford a car that they could be proud of. But life changes and financial situations change, often for the better. Therefore, it's not usually a long-term problem. Keep your head up and look to a great future.

Actually it is. I mean I was in college and working part time and able to make the $200 a month car payment. So it is normal to be embarrassed b/c it makes people think, "You don't even have $200 a month??" Since unless you live in a really big city, you end up spending at least $50 a month on public transportation and probably a lil more bribing friends to take you places.

But yeah--I'm not saying you do this, but the people I know who complain about not having enough money usually
*smoke (very expensive. if you smoke a pack a day you would save close to $100 a month by quitting)
*and spend a lot of money on unneccessary things. They are believers in the day that paycheck comes in Spend like there is no tomorrow. Buying DVDs, going on expensive family vacations, spending several grand at christmas so they are still paying off christmas in May...it's just stupid money decisions.

And since that seems to be the norm--even if YOU aren't one of those people and really are just in a tight time right now--other people THINK that you are among those people....

So yeah its normal to be embarrassed about that. Who wouldn't be?

I am almost 60 years old, and while I own a car, I cannot justify taking it every where I go. While fairly new, it still pollutes, causes traffic problems, isolates me from nature and people, and is unhealthy for me.

So I usually take a bus from about 1/3 mile away, bicycle, or walk.

Still some people wonder if I am a financial failure. No, just conscious of the choices I make.

So for you; Is it that you cant afford a car, or that you can't justify one?

No and I would say that if you cannot afford something like a car then your are a lot smarter than the average person that goes out and buys something and feels good for awhile and then gets behind or gets themselves upside down.

sure it is.In this country, that's for sure. For not having a car means you're not enough of a man to take care of yourself. It may be rather sad to think that way,but that's just the way society sees things

Yes it is normal, but don't worry about what other people think and there is no good reason for being embarressed.

probably, but you shouldn't be. most people can't afford the things they buy and that's why everyone is in debt. at least you're smart enough to realize you can't afford it.

You'll meet more people by walking or the bus. Healthier and wealthier, also.
