I am going to move to a flat near the City soon and initial expenses will be great so the more cost-conscious the better.. Whenever I see great items offered I want to kick myself because I have forgo them due to logistic problems. None of my friends have their own car and I don't have family/relatives in London so pls don't suggest these.

We have several people in our Freecycle group that can't drive, and most people near them have no problem delivering. We even have a few who will pick things up from others for them. It never hurts to ask.
We also have a group called Freecycle Chatter that is a place apart from the regular group for discussion. If you have such a group, maybe they could give you some local ideas. I hope maybe this has helped.
Isn't Freecycle a great concept?

Although nothing can be "sold" on Freecycle, this does not mean you cannot offer a small fee for delivery. If the meeting place for your club is close to your flat, this may be an option. I often deliver items I have freecycled because I like keeping my address semi-private. Our club also meets at public parks for the same reason.

First off.. delivery fees are a NO-NO in Freecycle. Everything including delivery fees, buying an item, giving money for an item are not allowed and not allowed to be asked for.

As to your issue, you can ask when you reply to a offer post if the member would be able to deliver the item. It doesn't hurt to ask and the worse thing that can happen is that they would say no.

Post a 'Wanted 'on Freecycle, asking if someone can pick up a freecycle item for you, and offer to pay for petrol or a delivery fee. Freecyclers tend to be a responsble group and you could probably find one of them to help.

I don't no about the states but in the UK a number of hire companies will rent out a van for a 4 hour period.

How about renting a truck for the day? Like U-Haul? Why wouldn't that work?
