Do you feel the need to learn about other religions just so you have the knowledge? I had this need when I was 14 and chose Islam at the age of 18. I'm now 23, and the hatred I have seen only shows me that the words of the Quran are true. Do any other muslims feel the same? Does it actually strengthen your faith when you see the very words of the Quran come to life in front of your eyes? That's how I feel every time I see an bigot on here who has no regard for life. It doesn't matter what religion he bashes, it only strengthens my faith. Who else feels the same? For the record, Answers is a public forum where people come to ask sincere questions. Most are based on personal experience so if you call that spamming, you don't belong in answers and need to reread the TOS.

I'm only seeking knowledge. I have been a muslimah for 5 years, alhumdolillah, and also hold a degree in Travel. I went into travel due to the interest of learning about other cultures and ways of life. My question is sincere.

Being an ex-Catholic, now Muslim, I think it is VERY important to read into different religions. I have a whole bookshelf filled with different religions. From Hindu, to Shinto, to Buddhism, to Sikh, to Jainism to even voodoo. It is important to learn about different cultures and religions, because how else would we be able to understand people.
What I don't understand, are people that are so closed minded and believe what ever they are told without checking the sources. Being raised in a Catholic school, I was always taught that being Christian was the ONLY RIGHT WAY. I lost that when I was yelled at and embarrased in 6th grade at church by the priest (who I saw going to Solid Gold, a strip club, a few years later) because I asked a question regarding "turn the other cheek", I didn't know much then, but I learned it was dangerous to ask questions, because that means you are not a sheep but a goat.
Sorry, I went off on a tangent...
When I read the Quran, it makes me feel that God is really talking to me, I never felt this when I read the bible, I think it would hae been different if Jesus would have wrote it himself, instead of his followers years later. But, everything the Quran highlights on, is very true, and I believe it.

I'm a Christian, and have not read the Quran (but I would like to).
I think everyone who is religious should learn about religions other than their own. Even if they don't change their faith, it will mean they are able to understand the others' beliefs, and, hopefully, that will reduce the amount of hatred around. I do not believe terrorists are typical of Muslims, and more than I believe the IRA etc are typical of Christians.
Then there are the Jews, the Hundus, the Wiccans ... everyone's belief deserves respect, and, I believe, are all based around the same thing: be nice to people, look after the world, and praise its creator.
I think the "My God can beat up your God" types are just interested in finding an excuse to impose their hatred on other people.

Dear Asker,
The question you posted here is not very clear in meaning. Readers need to read between the lines before we understand your question (more accurately your motive).
If you say that the words of the Quran are true, the knowledgable Muslims will agree with you. But if you say Quran teaches hatred and killing people without a reason, then knowledgable Muslims will not agree with you.
The main teaching of the Quran is believing in One True God. The Quran also teaches about peace.
If you are actually a Muslim and not a pretender, please try to make your opinion or question direct and clear so as to avoid it being misunderstood.

Ive read the Bible and Im Muslim.
The reason is obvious. They dont teach us bible studies in sharia schools, thus we really do not know what Christians believe in or are supposed to believe in. So we make our own judgements about it.
Im a born Muslim, and I know for a fact that reading into other religions will either make me stronger in my faith or make me lose it.
I will take the chance and read up, because my religion is Islam, and I chose it every day, because it makes sense to me. Ive not come across any other religious system that is as coherent as Islam is so far.
The untainted religion of God will stand the test of time and space.
