My son (5) cut the inside of his left ankle last evening on a peice of glass he stated that when he cut it he couldn't look down at it, or at anything for that matter because his head and neck hurt, and didn't know he cut it until he got inside and sat down right before the 4 hour trip to the ER and 8 stitches. Any ideas on why his head and neck would instantly hurt when he got injured?

I'm not a doctor, but I have suffered from cranial and neck muscle spasms over the past thirty years. One of my doctor's believe they are/were caused by a Lyme tick bite I got years ago. Another side effect of the Lyme is that it caused neuropathy in my left foot, meaning I sometimes can't feel anything there.

Therefore my guess is the child is right, he had the headache first and didn't know he cut his foot until he sat down and saw it.

Call his pediatrician this morning and ask questions. If you live in an area infested by ticks, have the blood test done. I'd also want a CAT scan and MRI done to make sure, he doesn't have a different problem.

Sometimes we really have to LISTEN to what the patient is saying to understand fully what is wrong. In other words, sometimes a cut isn't just a cut.

Good luck. Good for you for asking a question such as this.
