I'm looking for a spanish word that translates to "let go/to release/to set free"?

Question

i was thinking perhaps either liberar would be appropriate as i'm not looking for the literal meaning but more in an emotional sense. I was opting for soltar but was told that it was meant in a literal sense. If anyone could offer help on these two words or any others that would translate to what i'm after, i would appreciate it greatly :)

When i say "let go" i mean it in a sense to just let everything be and let go of trying to control life. What would be appropriate in that context? Soltar? Liberar?

i was thinking apart from what i wrote,

liberar is a good one, its more about freedom than letting go.

soltar doesnt always mean in the literal sense, it depends how your saying...or what your saying it about.

it also depends if you just want to use one word, or a sentance,
i think if you use a sentance it would be better,

its hard without you describbing what the main meaning behind it is.....

what is being let go? what is being set free?

i think context would be very helpful.

for example, if you are talking about returning a wild animal to it's habitat then "liberar" would be a good choice for "release" "set free".

if you are firing an employee then "despedir" or "dejar ir" would be ok "te tengo que dejar ir" means "i have to let you go" or "te tenemos que dejar ir" means "we have to let you go".

relationship that did't work. (these are not very good options by themselves if we are talking about ending a relation in spanish)

Yes let go is all what you mentioned, but in the context you want, it wouldn´t be correct.

let go also means "dejar ir"


déjalo estar (let it be)
deja de tratar de controlar la vida (let go of trying to control life)
