I was told by an acquaintance that while it was illegal for someone under 21 to buy or sell a hangun, that someone over the age of 21 could buy the gun and transfer ownership to the person, assuming they are over 18 and have no prior record. Any truth to this? I'm in Nevada if that helps.

transferring a handgun to a person would require the same background check be done . then if you walked into your local gun shop and bought it .

if the person purchasing the firearm , buys the firearm with the purpose of giving it to another who could not legally purchase the fire arm on their own , commits a criminal act under the FEDERAL firearm laws , and could do up to 5 years in a federal prison

Under federal law, a firearms DEALER cannot sell a pistol to someone under 21. A private party may sell or give a pistol to someone 18 or older. Similarly, a dealer may not sell a rifle or shotgun to someone under 18 but they can be given as a gift.

You may not buy a firearm FOR someone else, no matter who they are. You may give them as gifts but John (who can still remember WWII) cannot give Bob (who still remembers Korea) $200 to buy a gun for him. State laws vary but I do not believe Nevada has any laws against possession for those between 18 and 21.

In my state there is a difference between owning a rifle and owning a handgun-the age in Arkansas for owning a rifle is 18 and the age for a handgun is 21-and a permit is required for a handgun too.

I know that a minor might be able to own a firearm but will not be able to take ownership until he passes 21, depending on the law in your location. Also I think a person over the age of I think 16 can own a firearm if he/she lives on a farm.

It's a weird quirk in the law some states allow 18 yr olds to carry, own, but not buy because of a federal statue.

Depends on the state. But I am assuming that some 18 year olds can get a weapons permit.

Everything in Nevada is a felony Nevada doesn't have misdemeanors. Cops are a joke in Nevada. It's a mafia state. The whole state should be nuked.

I believe that you can own a handgun at the age of 18, however you can not purchase one... Check with your local sheriffs dept or police dept about obtaining a handgun permit.
