The heart is a muscle it just pumps blood

Our emotions are controlled from the deep part of the brain nick named the reptilian brain because it is very smiler to that of the reptiles and birds.

It is part of the Autonomic nervous system which when triggered makes a series of changes in the body which are there to help us run or fight (Fight / Flight reaction)

The reason why we get the idea that the emotions are connected to the heart is because one of the changes is to make the heart pump faster so that blood can supply oxygen and glucose's to the musicals.

In the east it is not considered to be the heart that is the center of emotions but the stomach. This is for the same reason. One of the changes is that the stomach switches off and so the person gets the feeling of butterfly's or lead in the pit of the stomach.

What value are emotions?
They are there as a defence and are most invaluble to keep us safe. Unfortunatily we ether allow ourselves to be ruled by them or we over ride them way too far.

Well, the heart is an abstract emotion that originates in our minds, in a particular part of our brain. As such, I would say that emotions come from our minds. The heart is a large mass of muscle tissue connected to a couple of major arteries that circulates blood through our bodies. Saying that emotions come from the heart is about as logical as saying they come from our lungs. By the way, some cultures view the liver as the seat of emotion.

Emotions like anger or fear come from the mind. They come directly from our amygdalas (sorry). It's like a small button at the bottom of our brain.

Really, emotions are just electrical chemicals that run through our brains, aside from memory or thought processing.
