Well, congratulations. Finally did a tattoo. About the tattoo after care let me tell you how you can do it. Tattoo goo you can apply it for a week. For a tattoo totally to heal it will take up to 2 weeks. Tribal tattoo and full color tattoo will take more time to heals up. Black and grey tattoo will heals up in a weeks. In the 1st week of tattoo don ever apply any lotion. Lotion got too much water ingredients in side it will slow down the healing process even the color will fade out too. Vaseline it is also not a good idea because veseline contain petroletum it will make your make your skin sensitive. The best things to use is "bacitracin" oitment. It is a anti-bacteria stuff is good for tattoo. You just need to put a small amount on your tattoo don over use it. After few day your tattoo will scab don pick the scab let it heals by itself. If you feel very itchy you can try to slap it but don scratch it. You can apply lotion after two weeks. You just need to follow this procedure i guarantee your tattoo will look perfect.

You should go by the instructions that the artist provided for you. If he didn't give you any written instructions on after care then I would find me a new artist. I use A & D ointment for 3 days and stop! Use mild soap and water for cleaning it. You can just lightly pat your tattoo dry don't rub. It will depend on the area and if there is color how long the tattoo will heal. Everyone is different in the healing time. Remember that the itching is the healing proccess of your skin healing it's self. After about 1 week you can use a lotion of your choice. THis gives the new skin time to grow. After that you should be fine.

for the 1st 5 days use bacitracin to insure no infections set in. 1st wash it with antibacterial soap using your clean fingertips. then use a paper towel to pat dry. do not wipe or rub. use a thin layer of bacitracin. do that 3 times a day. after 5 days use lubiderm or cetaphil or any good moisterizer free of perfumes, colors etc etc. no sun or baths or swimming , lakes etc etc for 30 days. limit showers to 10 minutes or less and do not let the water hit your tattoo directly. after the tattoo heals always use spf 45.

idk about the lotion, but after the tattoo is complete (all healed, no touchups left) if it starts to feel like its drying out vaseline works (if a bit messy)
