Some of the smartest, best men and women are in the Military. The Military is very high tech, and I believe what these brave men and wome do is a thankless, honorable job to be proud of. I believe that the military gets a bad rap by people that have NO IDEA what the military is like or about. There are misconceptions about pay being high, military members being heartless, and that they are just killing machines (all of which are the complete opposite). Once the decision is made to go to war, I believe the military needs to be able to fight the war the way they see fit.

Depends on the Military Occupational Specialty the individual is engaged in. Some are high tech some are grunts, some cook. The US military is the best trained force today, with some of the highest tech equipment. When I was in, I worked on radios--fixing them and trying to keep them running. Some of the equipment was Korean War vintage, some of it was cutting edge. I am a US Marine Corps vet from the state of Ohio.

My view on the military? Well, in my experience, I've met some of the smartest people who were/are military. On the other hand, I've met some REAL idiots who were also military, and gave the military a bad name.
For the most part, they're good people, much like anyone else. The older soldiers are more professional in my opinion, because they actually had to iron their uniforms, or at least take them in to have them pressed. With the new ACU's, they don't have to worry about ironing their uniform, or shining their boots. It's sort of led to a breakdown of discipline. It's good for ME, as a military wife, because I don't have to help with that anymore. But it's bad for my husband, who is an NCO, because he has to deal with the new soldiers who NEVER had to worry about that.
Yes, the military does deal with a lot of high-tech gadgets. Most of the soldiers I've met are quite proficient at their jobs, and proud to serve. In turn, *I* am proud of THEM.

I think that they are the ones that get the bad rap for all that is going on. But you know what in 12+ years i have been married the military has been our life. And we both take the good with the bad. But it is our life.
It is some of the greatest people, guys and girls. And it is the only place i know that a job trusts someone not old enough to drink to operate a machine worth more then i will make in whole life. They are well trained and darn good at what they do.
But i am bias to :-)

The military is very much a Hi-Tec professional force, they are smarter and more educated today than at probably any time in our nations history. The Military is in the digital age and you can't have people without knowledge running all that equipment.

The United States Military is extremely high tech. We use 1960's technologies, such as sound powered phones.
But seriously, the technology is there. The problem is, the military is mainly composed of 19-25 yr old men, which = boys. This requires everything to be as idiot-proof as possible, as half the equipment will be held between a guys legs as he is 'riding the bull', and the rest will be dropped, thrown, kicked, etc until it eventually breaks.
The military is not the one you see in "Saving Private Ryan", but is much closer to "Gomer Pile".

Yes, the Military is a very high-tech professional force with some of the most greatest equipment.........and to Michael, are you calling us in the Military " idiots" seeing as how you said that our equipment has to be as "idiot-proof as possible", well, i should let you know that in the Military, over 80% of enlisted Soldiers have college degrees in a different type of work then what they do in the field. You know, Kerry tried to say something along those lines too, didn't work out so well for him that he dropped himself out of the running for President.

Today's infantry soldier is as highly trained in his craft as any journeyman craftsman. Maybe more so because the soldier has to be able to use a wide variety of complicted equipment, without conscious thought as to the operation of the equipment, instantaneously in the highest stress situation imaginable.
I am a locomotive mechanic living in Indiana, but I was a soldier from 1985 to 1994.

I served in the Army for 6 years, the experience was a good one. The Army gave me experience with my career, and from what my boss told me when he hired me, my extra experience in the Army was a big help in deciding to hire me.
