The big boulder in the middle of Australia (in the Northern Territory) is called Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock is a large sandstone rock formation. It's found inUluru - Kata Tjuta National Park 335km south west of Alice Springs and 450km by road. It is sacred to the Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara, the Aboriginal people of the area. It has many springs, waterholes, rock caves and ancient paintings. Uluru is listed as a World Heritage Site for its natural and man-made attributes.

Hope that answers your question.

LOL "that big boulder "? - OK OK, I guess you mean "Uluru" but mate, you need to go and see it in person. Once you see it, you will NEVER call it a "boulder" again.

As someone else mentioned, it's a "bloody great big rock"!

There are however, round boulders - and these ARE... boulders nearby (relatively "nearby - remember we are talking the outback here) called Devils Marbles.

Your pretty accurate, It is a boulder or we say in OZ a bloody big rock, It's a monolith, Known to many Aussies as Ayres Rock and it's Aboriginal name is Ularu. It's considered a sacred site by the indigenous people and is officially own by them as the Government in the early 80's recognized their rights as land owners and rightfully gave it back to them and pays rent on it to allow tourist to visit it.
