They don't want to be too close to you. They want their distance. Mabey they are scared to love you. Love can be scary.

That certain situations or circumstances only enable someone to love you far away, more like a spiritual love, rather than a physical one

Usually it is because they either have a relationship with someone else, or that having a relationship with you would be a bad idea for some other reason.(could be health, age, etc...)
