You can get treats other than bones for cleaning teeth, like hard biscuits.
However, if your dog's breath stinks it's likely to be serious dental problems, which will need proper cleaning and possibly extractions. There's no 'natural treatment' for this, because medicines won't sort it out, natural or otherwise. He needs a dental procedure at the vets.
Dental work is a common need in older cats and dogs - afterall, if you didn't brush your teeth for years yours would be rotten too! Remember we've extended the lifespans of domestic cats and dogs way beyond what is natural, and one of the consequences of that is that they get rotten teeth. Their teeth aren't designed to live as long as that - neither are ours, that's why we have to brush.
Take your dog to the vets. If he has horrible teeth it will be very uncomfortable for him even if he doesn't show it - and dogs don't. The vet can scale and polish his teeth under anaesthesia, and remove any as necessary. After this has been sorted out, you can feed teeth-cleaning treats to prevent the need to do this again.

You can't really treat the symptom (smelly breath) unless you know what the cause of it is.
I would start by examining your dog's teeth carefully. A lot of the time, odor in the mouth is caused by tooth problems - plaque, infections, etc. Examine every tooth, front and back, as well as the gum line - look for plaque, cavities, red and swollen gums. If you notice any of those, take your dog to the vet.
If this is not a tooth problem, I would try to rule out other causes. The most common cause of bad dog breath is a low grade food. What are you currently feeding? What better foods are available in your area? Do you know how to choose a quality food?
I would also suggest a trip to the vet. Sometimes foul breath is an indicator of a disease in dogs. One of the symptoms of kidney failure, for example, is breath that smells similar to ammonia. Bad breath can often indicate something serious is wrong - have your vet check it out and rule out the obvious (teeth, food).

It's reccomendable to make a trip to vet. Let your vet check and if your dog need teeth cleaning, the vet will have the proper tools. Besides that, the vet will reccomend you good dental care itmes for your dog.
Sometimes it's not your dog problem. It can be cause by the food you feed it, it's diet, and amount of clean water he is taking. Anything lack from a dog nutrition diet will also a cause of bad breath.

You need to take him to the vet to know how dirty his teeth are. If they are very dirty, he will need a dental cleaning. No amount of minty bones or natural stuff will clean teeth w severe tartar. If they are only mildly dirty, you can get some special dental diet or chew toys that helps the teeth stay clean.
Another possibility are impacted anal glands. These are small sacs that get full of pherormones that they have inside their butt. If they get too full and impacted, they become uncomfortable and your dog would constantly lick them. These glands reek, and your dog will get this smell in his mouth. Have your vet check those too.

First get his teeth checked by the vet. Depends how old he is, if he is older dog he may have gum disease and teeth may be comming out! This can poison there system if something isnt done.
I give my dog kongs and chew toys, raw bones to chew (not cooked) and pigs ears and rawhide chews.
I dont ever clean his teeth as these thing i meantioned all do the cleaning.
Good luck!

You could grind mint leaves in with his moist dog food...
You can go get a dog approved toothpaste, and brush his teeth and tongue.
Those would help, as would minty bones or dentibones. They will get his teeth healthy too.
I found my dogs breath got bad if he didnt have enough to drink. Make sure your dog has plenty of fresh water.
If the problem continues, call the vet....He can check your dogs teeth and tongue....and show ya how to care for him.
