My maiden name is fairly rude sounding too, lol. But hey I can laugh about it now, because I really don't care what people think.
If a person is going to have a go at me because of my last name, then they're not worth knowing at all.
That said though, life at school was quite terrible with all the bullying because of my surname, and at one stage I did become suicidal over it, but nowadays it just doesn't bother me. What doesn't break you only makes ya stronger.

She could contact an attorney and for a pretty reasonable fee she could get her name changed. I am sure the judge would be understanding.
On the other hand, since her name might not do justice to her last name there are many nicknames she or the children could go by.
According to legend many years ago there was a family whose last name was Hogg. Well when Mrs. Hogg gave birth to twin girls the proud Mr. and Mrs. Hogg named them
Ima and Ura.

Assuming you are asking on her behalf and it is something that really bothers her..she could have it legally changed.
Otherwise..Tell her not to worry about it. Many people have weird names and those who truly love and care for her will not mind.
In regards to her kids.....for some reason..the Johnny Cash song "A boy named Sue" comes to mind.....
