First off, I personally wouldn't use Beneful or a generic form of it, but I'm asking out of concern for a friend's dog that I just LOVE.
Is there a generic or a similar brand of dog food out there that resembles Purina Beneful? This dog has been very sick for over a week with clueless owners who are going to ride it out. The last I knew the owners were buying Purina Beneful but two weeks ago when I saw the dog's food it looked different than Beneful in color, but was "close enough" looking. Basically it looked like a possible generic Beneful. I'm wondering if there is a generic, and it is what the owners bought, and if that brand is on the recall list of pet food. The poor dog has been sick with the recall food symptoms for over a week.

Beneful... *shudders* Anyways, there's probably other foods out there like that. Any chance you can get them to change foods to something better assuming the dog doesn't die? I feel bad for the dog. Yet another reason I'm glad I feed raw... :-(

Have you all not heard about the poisoned dog food? and Beneful was on the list. Some dried dog food was recalled but later after they were investigating the wet dog foods

They better take the dog to the Vet immediately.

If you feed generic grocery store food it is going to make the dog sick with kidney problems, skin problems etc.

If they really care about the dog they will take it to the Vet and get it some decent food. If they do not want to take care of the poor thing then they should give it to the Humane Society where it may stand the chance of getting a good home and be well cared for.

If they won't buy the dog decent food then they probably have not got the dog it's immunizations and they are going to kill the dog one way or another. Poor baby can't you take the dog and try to get it seen after.

Please don't take this as me being rude, but I don't think this is a good time to be on the Internet and ask people what food "looks like Beneful" when this poor dog has been sick and suffering for "over a week."

You need to tell your friends that they need to take their dog to the vet NOW. There are no other options, no alternatives. If the dog is acting sick, the dog needs to see a licensed vet. There's no "riding it out" with poisoning. The only outcome of that is a dead dog. Inform your friend that failure to provide vet care is considered animal abuse. It can get them arrested.

I don't know if Beneful is part of the recall - however, a lot of pet foods have been recalled. The recalled foods include BOTH dry and canned foods, and they include BOTH crappy cheap brands and high end brands.

Bottom line - dog needs to go to the vet. If the idiot owners won't take the dog, ask them to sign the dog over to you and take the dog yourself.

Sounds like your friends are feeding a dry dog food.
It was wet, or Canned Dog Food, that was recalled.

That being said I am a firm believer that as in anything, you get what you pay for. And most lower priced dog food contain things not meant for consumptiong by any living animal.

People who would feed generic dog food deserve to have to pay for a vet.
In this case, these people don't even seem to be doing that.
It doesn't matter what they feed! The dog is sick. That should be priority.

don't buy dog food from the grocery store unless you hate your dog.
