Top of upper leg where it joins hip is extremely painful in the middle of the night to the point of waking me up. It radiates to a dull ache down my leg. Its not a pinched sciatic nerve. Any clues. Its not painful during the day.

The best doctor to answer this is a chiropractor. I recommend you see one as soon as possible. I've enclosed a link where you can find a qualified chiropractor in your area.

There's more awareness for the condition called 'Restless leg syndrome'. That could a possibility. Especially if at night it keeps you from sleeping because it feels like a tingling sensation like you need to walk it off and do something active rather than sleep, then it could be RLS.

No one can do an actual diagnosis on line. You would have to go see your doctor, explain the symptoms your experiencing in full to really get the full scope of what's going on for an appropriate diagnosis! Hope this helps!
