Up until recently 1997 or 98 they were American, but now owned by a foreign company. What Jeep car are you talking about? If your talking about the old Jeep (AMC) Eagle, then a replacement transmission would probably be hard to get, a rebuild would be more likely which can cost anywhere from $1500-3500 depending on the age of the transmission. If its a newer Jeep then the cost of buying a new transmission is about the same as having one rebuilt plus or minus $5-700.

Jeeps were first made during ww2 to help move the troops easier and most were geared for a top speed of 35 mph. They are extremely hardy but have some quirks that can catch you unaware like direct steering which is no play in the steering wheel. I don't believe Jeep has ever made a car by the way.

yes it is even though like everyone says its owned by benz they still make it in the U.S. also to repair the transmission you have to go to a shop and get a price quote because its kind of hard to say how much its going to cost to fix it when there is no added details as to what the car is doing.

On your repair issue on the transmission. You can get quotes from local shops..would not bother with dealer..ususally rediculous, but...get better warranty.
