So, I moved out of my parents' house summer of 2005. I haven't recieved any financial support from either of them, nor have I been given the rest of my possessions. I'm wondering if I'm eligble to take my own parents for child support and back pay.

Ok. Let me rephrase. I'm a 17 year old who went through sexual, mental, physical abuse since I was 2. I think I deserve to have them help me out a bit. Given the information, I was hospitalized when I moved out. I wasn't helped by my social worker, so I'm doing this on my own. I'm planning on moving to a different country in a year, I take correspondence as school, and work a full-time job. I've worked to pay rent and what-not for myself. Parents weren't there. I'm not looking for sympathy here, I just need a simple answer.

Ok. I guess I should add the rest. I'm not emancipated. That would take governmental issues, signing. I'm still -legally- my parents' 'baby girl.' And a gift... is still considered your possession. I'm trying to be civilized with this question. I know some laws are different in the states than in Canada. I don't want your opinions. I just need simple, straight-to-the-point yes or no's. Thank you.

I don't know where some of you got your legal degrees, but this child stated she was NOT emancipated---she THEREFORE is still the responsibility of her PARENTS. Should she have committed a crime, her parents would have been held responsible to pay damages she might have incurred....even if she WERE emancipated, it sounds like she left her home maybe BECAUSE of the abuse she mentions in her question.... if that's the case, REGARDLESS of the fact that she is still a minor, her parents--at least one of them anyway---owe her BIG TIME especially if one of THEM was her sexual abuser....it doesn't matter if she moved out of the parental home, she is STILL under the legal jurisdiction of her parents until she is at LEAST 18....I think you should find yourself a lawyer before you turn 18 and see what he/she has to say about the entire mess. I think your parents must be pretty awful people if they won't even help you out a LITTLE!!! an even MORE so if one of them was your abuser!!!

If there's a help order for the 17 12 months old, particular the non-custodial make sure maintains to pay help till she is the two emancipated or turns 18. That make sure is responsible for the help of that baby till age 18.

Since you moved out and made the decision on your own then I am afraid that your parents are not responsible for your care now. You made the choice to leave. i know that you mentioned that your parents seem to be abusive. the best thing to do is forgive and let it go. Move on with your own life. Good luck to you and God Bless you!

WOW -- that really took some guts to post this -- and the answer is ...

NO!!!! YOU Are emancipated .. you can't get your parents to NOW start paying for you yet again ..

and as far as "Possessions" ... WHO paid for those things anyways -- I WILL BET it is YOUR PARENTS who paid for the items that you are complaining about -- so they are NOT your possessions anyway! GUESS WHAT -- the Person who paid for the items IS the owner -- they were just being caring, generous parents to LET you USE the items while in the home.

YOU will be laughed out of court -- I can see the JUDGE just having to excuse himself/herself to go back to chambers and LAUGH THEMSELVES SILLY over this! Wow .. what a waste ....

"Back pay" ... FOR WHAT ?! Being a kid?
Like it's a job? You moved out. Your odds of getting anything from the courts is .000000004 %.
